duck tape- in case of a mishap and tent rips you can make a quick repair. After our first trip away where the windbreak went through the tent door, a webbing tag snapped, we never leave home without the repair kit-duck tape, waterproof sealant, needle and thread.

I've been told a headtorch is really really useful, espesh for toilet trips in the dark.

Isn't there a Mumsnet list somewhere?

Solar powered fairy lights. Laughed at them at first. But just back from festival camping and they were great. Come on automatically when it gets dark, not too bright, means you can find your tent and find stuff in your tent easily.
