Where to camp in France about 1 hour from Calais?

We are taking my mum to France for the weekend along with 5 yr old dd in June. We want to get the ferry to Calais and then drive no more than an hour (if possible) and put the tent up.

Ideally there would be a lovely french town nearby preferably by the seaside where we could stock up on patisseries, bread, cheese and wine to feast on back at the campsite!

Anyone know of such a place? Could take pot luck but figure someone must have found a good place already!

Have looked up some threads on other forums and have seen

Mnotreuil sur Mer camping at Les Fontaines des Clercs
St. Valery sur Somme
Merlimont
St. Omer
Le Crotoy

But would still like some mn recommendations from experience!

I can't speak for the campsite (website here but Montreuil-sur-Mer is a nice town. Don't be fooled by the name though, it's not near the sea.

Merlimont is quiet close to Le Touquet which is a nice seaside town.

its just under an hour and a half from calais though - but v simple drive.... st valery is lovely little town with amazing cheese shop/lovely ice cream and good butchers, castle and beach! and boat trips to see seals..

there may be other campsites around the area - but we stayed there and tehy had fresh bread/croissants in the morning - I should be on commission I've recommended it so much! -

Thanks erdnparty. I had just come across that on another thread and looked it up and it looks perfect. We have stayed before in another of the Les Castels chain and always found them great.

Will book that as St Valery sounds perfect.

Thanks.

Good question gracebf, I'm definitely going to try out some of these suggestions too!
