Who's going to Wychwood next month?

I know a few went last year and that i failed to make the meet-up point.

We're going again this year and bringing another mumsnetter too.

Anyone up for meeting up at the pimms bus?

I am only with DS 3 age 9 who I won't see for dust (apart from when he wants cash) and my DS1 who is 19 and ASD so whilst he is good company he will sit in his usual place. My brother and friends from previous years aren't free to cme. It would be lovely to talk to another adult. Can we think of something distinctive to mark us out as MNetters though. I was too embarrassed to ask anyone last year!

Hulababy and I aren't bringing our DH's. Would be nice to meet up - i only didn't make the meet up last time because we arrived at a different time to what we thought we would and was sorting the tent out.

So what do we wear/carry to identify ourselves without looking like a complete pillock?

not sure, will have a chat with hula and see what she suggests.

We'll be identifiable as our girls will have glow star star wands.

Looking forward to our first time at Wychwood. 9y DD is excited too.

Batteryhuman - I have pics on my profile :) I'll be the one watching Katz put the tent up whilst holding random poles in place, and looking very put of place on a campsite!!!

LOL! Hula - we at least have more comfy beds now! Really need to practise the tent pitching to double check they fit!

Like i said our girls 3 of them will have star wand glow sticks - bought in advance and probably more glow sticks round their necks.

Assuming the Pimms bus is there shall we aim to be around it at about 6.30 on friday evening - i think i will have earned one by them having pitched a tent single handedly!

LOL; I will help, I promiose. I just can't promise to be very good at it, may be more of a hinderance! Just guide me where to stand and what to hold.

We just need a practise run - either park near you or one near me, plus check the tent for tears or rips. i'm sure its fine but you never know!

My Ds ids never parted from his diablo, blue and white with very smart matching blue and white sticks. He also says he will wear a purple check pork pie hat which he bought last year so he will be more noticeable than me.

I will head for the pimms tent 6.30 on friday and drag DS along with me.

Katz - let's hope the wind drops a bit so we can have a practise run soon.

Oh, my DD is 9y. Katz's DDs are 8y and almost 6y.

Thanks Hula, I am looking forward to meeting your 3 girls. He has run feral at Wychwood since he was 6 so will be keen to take them off to explore if you are up for that?

I remember Katz saying it seemed really safe.

It did seem really safe last year - ours had great fun dancing the night away.

Don't want to tempt fate but the long range forecast for next weekend is perfect! Fingers and toes are now crossed.

Hula and I had a practise trying to put our beds together last night which was very funny and surprisingly hard.

The forecast is looking good!

Just a shame forecast isn't so great for tomorrow when we see take that.

Advice needed for newbie Wychwooder - Am sitting here with debit card in hand and am seriously considering buying tickets - but I need to know - are all of the kids activities/workshops free? Do you pay extra for carousel, fairground rides? Is is very expensive? I have seen other activities they are do - ie: smoothie making workshop (by Waitrose), fairy mask making etc - is there a charge for these? We will only have (gulp) £50 spending money for 4 of us for whole weekend. Neither DP or I can drink alcohol at the moment and we are going to have to cook most of our own food as DP is on a strict diet and meds so really any money is going to be spend on the 2 DC's. Is this realistic?

From what I gather from Katz - I haven't been before either - the workshops, etc are free.

I'll send Katz this way - but I gt impression that I just needed money for food and drink.

last year none of the workshops cost money, there wasn't a carousel.

Last year (have just found the programme) my DD' s did a street dance work shop, yoga for kids x 3 sessions, we went to several author visits, a music performance aimed at children, a silly science session all for free. The bands on friday started at 5pm and mine mostly just danced. You don't have to spend money once your in basically.

The thing we spent money on was books at the author visit but this was sponsored by the book people so the books were they're online prices not blackwells prices, we bought drinks and food and DD2 a long sleeved cotton top and DD1 a dress (again not essential!).

I'd really recommend it, we had a brilliant time.

Last year we also took our own glow sticks, which the girls loved and we're doing the same again this year. We ended up sharing them out amongst all the children my girls were dancing with.

We took a plastic backed picnic blanket to sit on and watch the bands.

We did do some cooking last year, and took a cold box but the catering was so good and space is minimal in the car this year hula and i are planning on buying food.

its worth noting that you don't get to keep your car by your tent.

the therapists in the healing garden cost money but then i'd expect to pay for a massage!

The workshops at Wychwood are included in the ticket price, so there is no additional cost to take part in them. Most craft materials are provided free of charge to you and are sourced from the Gloucester Resource Centre who do wonderful work in Gloucestershire. A very small number of specialist craft workshops may ask for a minor contribution to materials.
