Campsites in Cornwall anyone?

We're hiring a VW camper this summer and want to get down to Cornwall - somewhere a little bit surfy as the kids like to have a go, but not in any professional sense.... I'd like a nice campsite without too many statics, near a beach and pub, and not too bothered whether the site has shedloads of amenities as long as it's not just a field with a tap in it.....

Any recommendations?

www.GwithianFarm.co.uk though you may have left it too late to book.

It's next to a 5 mile long beach and opposite a pub. When we went there last year, the wind on the beach was windier than windy time at windyville.

Not been here but has been recommended to us and we are looking to go in the summer
Porthtowan Tourist Park

Porthowan and Gwithian both have gorgeous beaches!! We go to Cornwall nearly every summer and stay in St Agnes.

SpringyMcSpringyPants · 06/05/2011 12:18

K999 which site in St Agnes do you stay at? I adore Trevaunance Cove and want to be near there.

K999 · 06/05/2011 12:40

I don't stay at a site. My PILS have a home there. Smile I love Cornwall!!

SpringyMcSpringyPants · 06/05/2011 13:11

Oh! dash! My Nan lives there and we used to spend summer holidays there as kids and we go back every year but now I have kids we can't stay with her as she can't cope with them for to long. So now we camp in the area and visit, just trying to find one that is near and is nice and suits us.

The other one that has been recommended to us is
Pressingoll Barns

K999 · 06/05/2011 13:18

Pressingoll Barns has fab little shops....Smile

It's all closed down now apparently. Another victim of the recession :(

K999 · 06/05/2011 13:27

Really!?? That is such a shame......there's also a great little fun park near there....the name escapes me! It's not Creely, although that's great.....oh this will bug me now.....it has battle boats and racing karts.....???

SpringyMcSpringyPants · 06/05/2011 14:16

Flambards by any chance :)

K999 · 06/05/2011 22:28

Please, please, please, please, please, please, ploease AVOID a place called Higher Harlyn near Padstow - absolutely bloody awful.

Trevella in Crantock (near Newquay) of the Ayr holiday park in St.Ives, you can actually walk into town from there and see the sea. Beach is about a 5-10min walk down hill, coming back is a bit of a pain with beach gear.
Let us know where you decide.
