Higear tents - any good? ours broke when we put it up!

Very experienced campers - put tent up for the first time (well, second - did a practice in garden last week) and a pole split in several places Angry

Should we replace it with another Higear or look for a different brand?

How annoying! Why do you think it broke: faulty pole or crap design? Hi Gear are Go Outdoors own brand, I think they are made by Gelert (?) but there must be some reason they are so cheap.

Was it one of the monster big ones, it was very windy this weekend and big tents (IME) are a lot more wobbly than small ones.

The pole shattered when we tried to push it up (was the first part to erect) - I did it with my 5 yr old so not much force on it. Have NEVER had that happen. The tent was broken before we even put it up. We taped it together with parcel tape and stayed for 2 nights but came home a day early because there was no way it'd have survived another night.

Want to return it to Go Outdoors but the customer service people were not good on the phone & said the poles are not under warranty. I say it is not fit for purpose and want it replaced. It's this one - not huge and wasn't at all windy when we put it up.

I didn't know they were made by Gelert. Interesting. Thank you!

It gets quite good reviews on ukcampsite so maybe you could give it another chance if you basically like the tent. Possibly Go outdoors could sell you a new pole or put in a new section for a few pounds - did they offer? Still annoying though.

Yeah, the tent seems fine otherwise - it's exactly what we need. I just don't expect a pole to break the first time we use it. And it didn't snap in one place, it split in multiple places on the same section and I'm now worried that it put extra strain on the other poles and that they may not be as strong as they should be. Dunno - I'm cross. Will take it back to the shop and see what they say.
