Hello campers

Does anyone have experience of this Quechua tent they'd care to share?

its for the odd weekend and oc asional long weekend. We are fair-weather campers, certainly not pros. There are DP and me, DS and an as yet unborn second DC

I like the big storage space in the middle. I like the pop upness and I like Quechua because apparently that's what ray mears favours

Any views one way of another would be appreciated before I blow £220 ( is that a lt for a tent?)

I find the terminology confusing, bases and seconds and all sorts I don't understand Confused

Thanks

Hi,
I looked at this tent in Decathlon over the weekend - but it was the normal version, not the XL version.

The DSs loved it, and wanted me to buy it.

I liked the bedrooms at opposite ends, but they are quite small (only enough room for 2 mats/1 double airbed, no room around the sides), and one of you will have to clamber over the other to get out iyswim. Would be the same problem in your XL version, but the bedrooms are much bigger.

There are 2 reviews of it on Uk campsite here.

Can you get to a Decathlon to see it? I was put off the 4.2 family because I couldn't stand up in the main living area, despite only being 5ft4.

It says the height is 180cm but that can't be right or it's just at it's highest point.

Having said all that, I definitely had my eye on the family XL pop-up but we are borrowing a tent instead.

hth???

We have that one. I hope it is good, we bought it for emergency (earthquake zone).
Yes their price is cheap, but they are light. No way that we could actually carry the other family tents without a car.
will watch the thread

Thanks both, it probably would ve a good idea to look at it first. So jamaise are you saying bedrooms are bigger in the XL than the one you looked at? I don't mind a small bedroom I think but would like to be able to stand ip. I'm 5'8 and DP us over 6 ft so that may not be realistic. Off to Have a read of the reviews you linked to...,

we have this one it is not a pop up one but can easily be put up by one person.
I didn't like the pop up ones because they are quite low in the middle and are quite big storage wise.
have had great holidays and short breaks with it.

X post.
Jamais why do you want to stand in a tent? I am not an expert, but I never needed to do so on short trip or week end. You need room to sleep and space to shelter the bags.
Is your nickname the reason? Grin

Blush sorry I read jamaisdehors ????

jamaisjedors · 02/05/2011 15:53

jamais dehors could be a good namechange Wink

Up til now I have only ever camped in a small 3 man basic tent, where of course you can't stand up (can barely sit).

But I found the slightly stooped position in the middle of the family 4.2 pop up actually more tiring than just crawling in.

OP, yes the bedrooms in the XL are definitely bigger than in the one I saw.

We also saw the one mouseymouse links to - 4.2XL and it was HUGE - really spacious.

The tent we are borrowing is similar to the non pop up 4.2XL - I was pleasantly surprised to realise that I could put it up on my own with some hindrance from the DS in less than an hour -without instructions.

But the pop-up ones look great for a weekend.

Friends of mine have a smaller type of the same tent. They are a family of four - 2 adults and DC of 13 and 10. It was fine for a weekend. You also could always get a tarp from Decathlon to put over the door to cook under. It's big enough so that you won't feel too claustrophobic if you have bad weather.
