last weekend I took my eldest (just 6) camping in Derbyshire and dont worry too much about cold weather - other parents seem to think it slightly irresponsible

We have decent sleeping bags/kit, self inflating mats, insulated inner tent floor etc so dont see an issue myself. One reason I am ok (and this will sound the wrong way round) is my eldest actually feels the cold. If she gets chilled she wakes up, whereas my youngest (3) can be as cold as ice and shivering and still claim to be warm (?!)

I camped this weekend with a nearly 2 yr old and a four year old. It was hot in the day but did get chilly at night. They were both fine, if anything I was worried youngest was too warm as he still feeds at night Shock so was in my bag, I was freezing with my top uncovered half the night Angry and he felt toasty.

My eldest is just like your youngest - he ended up half out of his bag, felt pretty cold but slept through and said he was fine. He seems to have survived it Grin.

Do these other parents camp - people who don't tend to think it will be colder then it is ime. Modern tents are really warm and I was only cold because of the feeding issue.

We are camping this weekend and can' t wait. Dd3 is 8 she wears fleece jarmas over ordinary ones and has a reasonable if a little old 3 season sleeping bag and blanket.

To be honest we have been freezing in august and boiling in september, you can't tell till you are there. I don't think you are being irrisponsible I think you are giving your kids a varied and fun upbringingSmile.

We camped over Easter and when I told other mums they all seemed to think I was insane. As it was we had better wethar than we did when we stayed on the same campsite last July, and apart from one cold night when it got down to 5 degrees it was fine.

wethar? Hmm

weather, obviously.
