If you had a campervan would you wild camp on your own in the middle of nowhere?

A friend has sent me details of a really nice "sleepy spot" in an area I need an overnight stay in in the summer. Its an ideal location for where I need to be and looks beautiful. I know people (blokes) who have stayed there before with no problems.

But it is about 2 miles from the nearest road and probably further than that to the nearest house. You drive for ages up a green track in a forest to a clearing.

I mean I can lock the doors in the van and I do have a mobile though I suspect there may not be a signal. My head says it should be perfectly safe but I think I've seen too many horror movies! I want to do it but I'm scared! Shall I just find a nice campsite?

not on my own.

I'll have DD with me but she's only ten. I think you're right. We slept in a car park in Stratford on Avon centre once and that was scary enough.

it just wouldn't be very pleasant. i would feel nervous being outside the van which kind of negates the point of staying somewhere rural and beautiful

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 26/03/2011 14:14

I definitely wouldn't if there were no mobile signal.

And yes I'd be too scaredy too.

Right, am going to book a campsite. I love the idea of it but you're right I'd be too terrified to enjoy it.

I would. It sounds lovely!

Slightlyreluctantexpat · 26/03/2011 14:37

My first reaction was that I would, no question, because it sounds lovely in theory. In practice it might seem deadly dark and rather creepy. Campsites are fine, aren't they, because there are other people around. This remote spot sounds great for a picnic or if camping in a group.

I don't think anything bad would actually happen, but I'd be too anxious to sleep!

chickenlickin · 26/03/2011 20:52

we do it but there is two adults and two kids, so could fight off anyone!

chipmonkey · 28/03/2011 20:53

I have imagined doing this but have generally imagined dh's burly manliness being there as well, tbh!

fluffles · 28/03/2011 20:56

i would. but i tend to feel more safe and comfortable in a forest or the hills than i do in the city.

unless the forest was actually on the outskirts of a city or town... but if it was really genuinely rural then i would feel safe (you come across very few desperate drug addicts in the woods)
