Have been looking for next year. Have found some lovely sites that allow dogs. Our dog is only 6 months old at the moment.

But just wondered how others have got on as never taken our dog before. We are planning a few short camping weekends this year but im trying to plan ahead for next year summer holiday.

Normally go to France and would like to continue. Please give me your do's and don'ts.

I mean how welcome are dogs if eating out etc?
Or am i completely mad even thinking about doing this?

Bumping

Surely someone must have taken their dog camping abroad?

I have often taken dogs camping in this country and both they and I love it.

But due to the (admittedly rare) cases of people taking dogs abroad and being unable to bring them back (mainly due to failed microchips), it is not an emotional or financial risk I am prepared to take.

Hmmmm, WTWTW I had not considered that, god, does it really happen? I would be devestated if it happened to mine Sad

Like I said it is rare, but not that rare, iyswim.

There was an article in Dogs Today a few months back and they had rounded up a fair number of people just from the UK who it had happened to in the last year or so.

Apparently microchips fail far more often than we think and if your dog is scanned with a working chip on leaving the UK, but then the chip cannot be read on the return, then it is 6 months quarantine.

Unthinkable isn't it?Sad

Too right it is Sad

I would never take that risk, now I know about it... had briefly thought about whether or not it was worth the hassle of pet passports etc just to camp in France, then decided that I bet there is not much that France can offer to beat the UK when the weather is nice.
