Cobb v Cadac

Hi all. I have been on here for a while but have changed my name so my DH doesn't recognise me.

DH and I love camping and all things camping related. He also loves cooking.

For his birthday, I would like to combine these two things and get him either a Cobb or a Cadac, but I don't know which. He has expressed an interested in the Cadac before but has never really seen a Cobb in action so might prefer that if he had it.

Could those of you who have one or both let me know what you love about them and, maybe, where one wins out against the other? I do realise they are very different but I was thinking that if the Cobb had most of the features of the Cadac but was also an oven, it might be the better option. Just for background, we have one 16 month old DD but also sometimes go camping with family/friends so can be cooking for a few people at a time.

Oh, and if we did go for the Cobb would we need to keep shelling out for the special bricks or can you just use BBQ coals/wood?

Thanks in advance Smile

Triple locks eglu and sets man/slubber traps in random places around the garden. Checks sky for aerial wires and loads the blunderbuss.

Hmm. Well I shall be using the Cadac in France where spit-roasted chickens area available on every street corner.

Actually - can either of them bake a pizza from scratch?

MisSalLaneous · 24/02/2011 20:25

Ahhh, for that you need a Dutch Oven according to thisisyesterday's latest post and my current obsession. Grin However, not in France, you'd need a fire to do that properly.

silverfrog · 24/02/2011 20:28

you can bake flatbread on a cobb, so pizza is deffo a possibility

MisSalLaneous · 24/02/2011 20:28

Well, according to this thread on UK C you can make pizza from scratch on it - will see if I can find recipe. I haven't yet.

DuplicitousBitch · 24/02/2011 20:39

MisSalLaneous · 24/02/2011 21:01

I guess if you're seriously into pizzas, one of these pizza stones would be good to buy as an accessory.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 24/02/2011 21:22

ooh, I wonder if my pizza stone would fit in the Cobb!

MisSalLaneous · 24/02/2011 21:42

After searching for recipes, I'm now really tempted to use one too!

Millimat · 25/02/2011 21:23

DH really wanted a Cadac - I was against it as it was a lot of money, so obviously he went ahead and bought it anyway. I have to admit (though not to him) that it's fab. I now want the pizza stone for it though Blush & will def invest in the skottel liners this year as it is a nightmare to keep sparkling clean!!!

Thanks for the pizza stone link - interesting. Smile
