Vendee in late July/Aug - heaving and really hot??

Can't make up our minds whether to go camping at the end of June/July or end of July/Aug.....

This is the last year before DS goes to school, although he is in the school nursery which doesn't break up until the end of July, I suppose I can remove him for a break during term.

Obviously it would be more expensive end of July, but would it be absolutely heaving, as all the French are on holiday then? But going at the end of June is not long after the Whit break....

I have no idea which is best. Advise gratefully accepted!!!! TIA

Well have only been in july/august, depends where you go but never found it heaving as such, more like that the further south you go ive found.

The thing if you go too early is that maybe not all facilities are available, i.e pool may not be open as long or bar/restaurant etc

we went july/aug to n vendee. we didn't go to the really big congested looking resorts. the local beaches were pretty quiet and parking wasn't an issue or traffic jams. do not drive down on a sat as that was horrific.

very cold at night and hot during day. personally we prefer brittany as the countyside and towns have more character. think the french must go to the commercialised areas and big resorts

We went to the vendee mid august 2009 and tbh it wasn't hot enough for me.

My DB went last 2 weeks Aug. Wasn't hot enough for him, either. Had to put on sweaters/fleeces in the evening.

We went Southeast corner of France last year. Lovely and hot, but quite a drive.

South France itself also hot, but also quite a drive.

Southwest France we found not so hot as on Atlantic coast.
