Lots of flags....sometimes up to three per caravan.

We used to go to these when I was a child in the 70s with my family (hardened caravaners).

Many happy memories of rounders matches, fancy dress/ best dressed caravan competitions, quizzes and social events.

Oh and lots of flags.

Not sure what they are like now.

Lurks, just joined the Caravan club today. Though I don't have a caravan, will they look down their noses at me in my 26 year old campervan.

Yes our caravan is at least 25 years old. Only cost us $50. Will be shunned? I'm so nervous about dh towing it.

What are the flags for?

No idea - local caravan groups i assume - have only been on sites at the same time.

We are not members - just never fancied it - although you can get great deals on certain sites with it. We preferred to be 'renegades' Our caravan is 20 years old - don't know if that's relevant.

I'm sure most members of the caravan club are lovely but have been put off in the past by over enthusiastic members asking about the weight etc. of our van as opposed to our car and how we found 'towing' etc. Although i suppose it's like anything - you find the good and bad in every club. My dad was a member of a certain classic motor club and while most people were just lovely bonkers enthusiasts there were always those willing and able to suck all the fun out of any hobby by taking it tooooo seriously.

We have recently joined the Caravan Club. I have found the newsletter and magazines really helpful in choosing a caravan.

Dont own one yet, the thought of towing gives me the heebie jeebies. But I know the CC run a course on towing which will ge helpful. DH & I will both do it, I have a mental image of towing the caravan around France during the summer holidays and having a great time in a floaty hippy kinda way. Grin

I grew up with caravanners and we had a fantastic time, although I am not sure that I will allow my children quite the same freedom that I and cousins had. Hmm
