Rousillon, South of France AND Costa Brava campsites.

Anyone been to the Eurocampsites for these two areas?

Am fancying one of the ones north of Barcelona for a week, then over the border to one near Perpignan.

What do you think?

In those areas we have stayed at:

La Sirene (Argeles)
La Carabasse (Languedoc - Vias Plage)
Domaine des Naides (Cote D'azur - Port Grimaud)
El Delfin Verde - Costa Brava, Spain

• as far as below Barcelona to Sanguli, Costa Dorada

We have stayed for a week at El Delfin Verde followed by a week at La Carabasse - was great, but you do have to pack & unpack again.

We also love Gascony, where you can visit Spain on the other side!

Oh,and we always drive & take an overnight stop en route.

Oh, and we have done these holidays for at least 12/13 years and NEVER been with Euro/Keycamp as they are the most expensive.

We use Matthews, Siblu, Canvas & Thomson Alfresco (in order of price, cheapest up) Thomson WAS pricey, but a fab van on a site we wanted (Sanguli) and was worth it.

And you'd recommend all those places?

I don't think I'd book through Eurocamp, they are very expensive. We normally go with VacanSoleil, much cheaper (though I don't know if they cover those places, haven't checked yet). Don't know Matthews, will look at that, thanks.

Do you find the quality of the caravan goes in the same order???

Over the years we have tried many combinations of company/site/van

Depends on number/ages of your party and what you need.

Matthews cheapest van is VERY small, but surprisingly well equipped, eg had fitted mozzie nets on windows so could sleep with window open. We discovered them one year when we thought a holiday was out of the question, but got 2 weeks in late August including fast crossing ferry, insurance for car & us etc for c£900. It is way much better than staying in a tent anyway!

There largest van is HUGE and very nicely fitted (but obvioulsy costs more). They have limited sites, and none in that area though. Great for Brittany/Vendee.

Thomson Alfresco was Top Class, Air conditioned Huge van in prime location on a site that suited us perfectly. Pricey though.

We have done SIBLU more than any other (from when they were Haven). They have never let us down, good range of van layouts and competitive prices.

El Delfin Verde was a great site but quite remote so you had to drive everywhere (but direct beach access and good supermarket on site). It has a HUGE pool.

The best entertainment we ever had was at La Sirene. We had Lion King & other musicals in French with English songs! Hysterical, but worth watching if you like that.

La Carabasse has a great beach and you can walk into the village with lots of restaurants to choose from. Lots to visit in the area if you have a car as well. Another large pool. We have stayed there at least 3 times. It is owned by SIblu so if you have kids the kids clubs are huge and well run, plenty of staff for each age group etc.

El Delfin Verde doesn't sound like our kind of thing if it's remote. I like the idea of being near a village with restaurants.

we went to la cypsela at pals with canvas a couple of years ago. tbh we chose it because we needed to be near that location, its not really the kind of campsite we'd go for by choice. It was fine, quite big, pool nice, about 1m from the beach (not quite near enough to walk). The area is very pretty, lots of beautiful coastal paths and towns, not too resortified.
We had a bit of bother with our belgian neighbours who sat outside talking late into the night...

from what I can see, all the spanish campsites are vast. Fine if you like that kind of thing, personally I would rather go somewhere smaller and quieter.
For location, la siesta at palafrugell may be worth looking at - palafrugell is a nice village on the coast, some good cafes/restaurants and nice beach areas.

Well, it's not so much about liking really big campsites but more to do with finding somewhere to entertain DS, who is an only child and wants to make friends with other kids on the site and have a good swimming pool.

We stayed at Norcenni Girasole near Florence one year, which I would describe as huge. But it worked for our purposes. But then, it wasn't noisy. And we will be going in early June so not peak season [crosses fingers]

cypsela was not generally noisy, and was perfectly pleasant.
