Vendee in June/July - should we book now?

Hello,

We have decided to go camping in the Vendee in late June/early July next year. Would like a municipal campsite (small with a pool, no flumes, etc req'd) - not interested in big eurocamp-style places. Going with DH, DS (4) and DD (who will almost be 1yo).

Haven't been to the Vendee since I was a child (and obviously wasn't involved in the booking process then!) - should we think about booking now?

Does anyone have any recommendations for a campsite which is

  1. smallish with a pool/small playpark
  2. within short driving distance to beach (doesn't have to be too close)

DH says that the tour de france will be in the vendee around that time, so I assume things will be even more booked up than usual?

New to all of this, so any advice gratefully received! (Have also been trawling through all the threads for info!). TIA Smile

There are just millions of campsites in the Vendee especially along the coast; but as a bit of a veteran I would recommend the area around La Châtaigneraie which has Vouvant and Puy du Fou (the French Theme Park) close by. The Sables D'Olonne and La Rochelle are about 45 minutes drive away. It also has the Venise Vert within striking distance.

I have never been unable to book somewhere in the Vendee during the summer, even just a few days in advance.

I stayed in gites around that area when my children were your age.

late June/early July fab time to go - nice long evenings, not too hot!

we stayed in a gite in the SW when Tour de France passed through a couple of years ago & getting booked wasn't a problem, so I wouldn't worry on that account.

no recommendations, never been to Vendee at all, but I'm sure you will be able to get booked into a nice site easily enough. have you done a search on here? I'm sure there are lots of threads about Vendee campsites Smile

I am having exactly the same dilemma at the moment. We will be going for the Tour de france. I have found a few nice looking campsites, all seem to have good availability at the moment. This one in particular www.camping-indigo.com/en/nature-camping-Noirmoutier-france.html looks nice. No pool but right on the beach.
