HI,

We are planning to start caravanning and we would like to know if anyone knows any Caravan (Second Hand) for sale around 2/3k?

Kind regards,

here

To be honest I wouldn't spend as much as that to start out in case you don't like it we started off with one which cost under a £1000 and gradually worked up to a new one also make sure your legal to tow the caravan.

Many Thanks for your reply Borderslass, You are right.
I have heard that there are caravans for £500 or less, and that there are people that want to dispose their old caravan as well.
However I do not know where to find one.

Do you have any idea where shall I start looking for it?

There are some \link{http://www.adtrader.co.uk/classhome.php?class_name=caravans-motor-homes-and-trailers&search_words=caravan&class_id=147&search_pos=3&nosrch=1&price_end=500\here} if you ignore the £42k campervan at the start!

Grumpla · 06/09/2010 19:03

I bought mine off ebay for about £150 I think and spent another £70 or so having it serviced to make sure it was road safe (and then another £40 a week later replacing the jockey wheel when we forgot to raise it before leaving the site :(

It has served us amazingly well through many muddy festivals etc - despite being a 1974 model! I would definitely start off with something cheap and cheerful - this will give you a better idea of the kind of layout that would suit you as well as whether you can cope with towing etc.

Second hand caravans are notorious for damp problems so you should probably buy yourself a damp meter thingymabob and take it to view caravans before lashing out 2/3k. After the second winter in a field my 'van had some water ingress which my dad was able to fix quite easily (he resealed under the grab handle and it dried out fine) but that was a very old wooden van with little or no insulation - I have heard that newer caravans have more insulation & use laminates which means once they are damp the whole bodywork panel needs replacing ASAP or you can end up with major mould problems (which can be very unhealthy as well as unpleasant)

Whatever you decide, I hope you find the right van for you! Caravans are ace despite the sniggers from less enlightened souls :)

Dear all,

Many thanks for all your reply & help.

I live in the south East.
I was looking at ebay and at some other sites yesterday and I saw some caravans for £40, £70, £150.

We are a family of 3 Plus a Blessed Dog.
I am going to buy one at this price (£150,00) and test it, see if we like caravanning or not.
We wont be able to buy one for 2/3k now so will be one at £150,00.

To BORDERSLASS:
We live in the South East.

To CECE:
Which caravan your friend is selling?
Which year?
How much is it?

To GRUMPLA:
Where did you have your caravan serviced?

PLEASE Let Me Know if anyone knows any second hand caravan for sale.

Had ours done round the corner in Norwich, but if you google there should be somewhere closer to you. Local camping shops might be able to recommend?

silentcatastrophe · 08/09/2010 13:47

What have you got, Grumpla? We have a diddy little Thomson Mini Glen c. 1967 or 1970. We need to take out the windows to replace the glass and we are having to replace some of the wooden frame on the inside because it has rotted. It doesn't smell damp, and I am hoping we will be able to fix it. I have recently sealed some of the outside edges so water can't keep coming in!

Which caravan place in Norwich? We are near Norwich, and I really want to get replacement rubber bits for the windows.

Look for soemone that services caravans on site - as this can be easier if you are keeping van at home and then they coem to the hosue service the van and away they go.

Things like the fridge need to be servied as they are gas and you need to make sure it is safe.

Get a carbon monixide and fire alarm fitted

get an awning or better still buy vn with awning - for blessed dog to sleep in

Seee if the people will let you have the gas bottle water bottles etc with the van sale

ChrisUK · 23/09/2010 22:16

Many thanks to all of you.

To CECE: Who is your friend that is selling a caravan?

Can you send more info about it, such as year, if its ok to tow, if has awining, etc...

See you soon,
