the hat household is going camping. we don't yet have a tent nor one bit of equipment (unless you count the fabulous job lot of plastic plates I bought from woolies once for birthday parties). we have a large car but also a large dog so it's going to be a squeeze. whilst I'd welcome tips of any sort what i'm really after is site recommendations. our preferences would be for small and basic with a feel of being in the wilds. although only v. ocassional campers we're very much at home in the UK's gorgeous countryside. North Wales is our first choice but would consider others.

Nantcol waterfall campsite nr harlech, and Dinas just up the road. Also Torrent Walk in Dolgellau, they are all quite basic mountain area sites.
Hope you find somewhere you like, have a look at get u camping if you have no kit, they are a hire company.

Barcdy about 3 miles north of Harlech. Its sheltered from the sea breeze so warmer at night and you don;t get loads of mozzies which many of the other sites in the area tend to get

Can highly recommend Beddgelert. It has a steam railway going through the site. You can also get freshly baked bread in the morning and pizzas in the evening [lazy camper emoticon]. Very pretty.

We had a lovely, albeit rainy long weekend here recently. Didn't see ds virtually the whole weekend other than at meal times.

stunning views north of Tywyn, have just come back from a week of watching the sun set over the Mawddach Estuary (well between the rain obviously).

I second Nantcol Waterfall campsite, simple site, clean facilities. You can walk up by the waterfall itself and there are plenty of other walks to take nearby. Plus you can have a proper campfire too.
