My hardcore 'wild' camping friends have bought a £50 tent carpet...

Is this the end of camping civilisation as we know it? Or the beginning?!

They say it's fab and has improved their camping experience immeasurably!

whats wrong with a big cheap rug.... or a 2nd hand bit of old carpet cut off?

must say, carpet/a nice floor covering to sit on as opposed to cold damp plastic ground sheet does improve camping but I dont think you need to spend £50 on it.

I think it's the fold-up-small-ability they went for! They tell me it dries quickly, like a fleece as well!

We love our tent carpet (bought second-hand for £20) - its great for DD to play on and nice and cosy in the evenings. It dries quickly but doesn't fold up particularly small but then it is for a rather large tent! Our weekend tent doesn't have a carpet so we take a couple of plastic-backed picnic rugs which have the same affect.

I did a lot of wild camping in my younger days [old gimmer emoticon] and I admit to being amazed at all the kit/gadgets/paraphernalia available nowadays. I did scoff at the idea of a carpet but when I bought our big tent second-hand from another MNer she sold us the carpet with it. It is FAB and well worth the extra space it takes up in the car.

It's the end of camping civilisation as we know it Grin

Saying that our foil backed picnic rugs from Aldi do make a suprising difference on cold coming up through floor.

You can't take a carpet wild camping though. surely not.

Where IS omdb. i haven't seen her roll her eyes in an age!

Pah. I sneer at their 'carpet'.

Ex Ex Ex and I used to go bivuacking (sp?) in just a sleeping bag, we'd get wankered on sherry snuggle up and shag like rabbits gaze at the stars.

People with tent carpets would never indulge in THAT sort of behaviour, colditz!

We would!

Well, in theory we would, but long days chasing after a toddler plus a few glasses of wine usually means we are tucked up snoring by 9.30ish Blush Blush Blush.

Afternoons while DD has her nap are a different story Wink...
