Last minute camping trip afoot (hopefully). What are our chances, maybe lakes or something, with a big tent?

Dunno about availability but the quiet site is run by mumsnetters. If no space they may be able to refer you to another

SleepySuzy · 25/08/2005 23:41

Thanks, Janh, I've emailed them

No they are full, and said all the Lakes will be. Any other suggestions?

We stayed at Scarr Head Torver near Coniston once. It was a lovely little site, a bit of the beaten track so maybe not so busy. Worth a try anyway 015394 41576 or 41328

Failing that try somewhere not quite so popular - Lancashire, Forest of Bowland etc. I think there are some nice sites around Arnside just outside the Lakes.

Good Luck

SleepySuzy · 26/08/2005 11:28

Thank you, no vacancies at the farm, but trying your other suggestions.

Hi Suzy

I haven't stayed here but friends have and really liked it. It's in Yorkshire Dales rather than lakes, but quite far west (only a few miles out of Cumbria I think).

Not sure if they have any vacancies but worth a try?

a few weeks ago we were at a site just outside Keswick called Hollows Farm. Everywhere else was full but he said they can usually accomodate. The site itself was basic - quite a walk to toilet (no light) and a different walk to showers (which were great). But the site was very peaceful adn despite being the most basic I have been to yet I would go again. Details are on UK campsite

Calicopie - no joy

Fifilala - lady said to phone back tomorrow morning and see how busy it is - hopeful...

Hi Sleepy suzy,

Hollows farm is nice, i stayed there a month or so ago, not too far from keswick.

I am going camping tonight to holme open farm just 5 minutes from sedburgh.

It has showers, toilets, water facilities and they do a farm tour for the kids which is really good and is also included in the price!!

You are also allowed to have proper camp fires which i feel is an added bonus.

Costs £8 per night for a 4 berth tent and £3 per night for a 2/3 berth tent.

hope you find somewhere nice.

Butty.xx

butty · 26/08/2005 12:34

sorry, that should be £5 per night for 2/3 berth tent.!!

i stayed there all last week and caught the best sun tan ever as well as giving the kids the freedom to run around as it really is an open farm!!!

Might see you around if your near the area.!!

SleepySuzy · 26/08/2005 12:35

Butty, is this place for families? The website makes it look like it is just for large groups.

OP posts:
butty · 26/08/2005 12:37

yes it is for families, i went with my 2 kids and my friend with 4 kids.

They ARE ALL REALLY NICE PEOPLE AND THE FARMER AND HIS WIFE HAVE 2 CHILDREN UNDER 4.

sedburgh is a 10 minute drive away and it has a brand new adventure play park which is excellent for the kids and is free.

It also has fantastic views.

SleepySuzy · 26/08/2005 12:44

Great butty, we might see you there, they can fit us in!! Just need to see what dp says, but he will be happy I think, is there much to do nearby?

Any way have to go now and get home to pack for the weekend.

I hope you find somewhere to stay.

You never know might see you around if you go to holme farm.

I'll be the one with one child this weekend!!! although there will be others with friends!!!

If you do go remember to wrap up as it is likely to be pretty cold!!

There a some nice places nearby if you have a car.

Sedburgh is nearby and has local shop and pubs, one of which offers entertainment for families on a saturday and sunday daytime.

Dent is also near by where you can do some nice walking etc....

Devils bridge is a 15 minute drive away, you can usually have nice walks down the river.

It just depends what takes yor fancy, i live in morecambe and use my time away to let the kids feel free and out of danger and just relax in the open.

SleepySuzy · 26/08/2005 12:57

Fantastic, maybe we'll see you there, look for a huuuuge tent (with only 3 of us in it!)

Anteater · 26/08/2005 14:39

Is it Dent that has the toilets converted from cattle stalls?

SleepySuzy · 26/08/2005 16:15

Looks like Holme Open Farm it is then.

Hi Sleepy suzy,

Hope you had a good time at the farm this weekend, i couldnt go in the end as dylan developed a chest infection from a cold, although my friends said that the weather was pretty nice apart from the odd bit of rain!!
I am hoping to go this friday till sunday as the last trip of the year but shall have to see how dylan fairs up and also the weather, dont want him there if it is damp.

C U L8er, Butty.xx

BLANKfloozypuddingandpie · 01/09/2005 06:36

Actually, Butty, the weather was terrible! It was cold, wet, windy and miserable. But we did have a great time. It was only warm on the monday when we were going home. After the first night when there were maybe around 20 tents there, loads packed up in the morning, leaving about 3!!! The softies!! Kept looking around for who I thought might be you, but obviously you weren't there. DD loved it though, and our tent was fantastic.

I really hope your kiddywink is feeling better.

butty · 01/09/2005 13:47

I'm glad you enjoyed it.
I am definately going on friday regardless of the weather, dylans chest is clear, and as long as i keep him warm and dry, things should be great.
There will be about 15 of us going as last trip of the year, so instead of moaning about the weather, i shall have a few bevvies and enjoy the camp fire!!! After all it is the great outdoors!!!

BLANKfloozypuddingandpie · 03/09/2005 15:10

Just one thing, Butty - do you use the showers???
