We are a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 boys. We are planning on buying the gelert Meridian 8 tunnel tent. Has anyone got this tent and are you happy with it?

I have the Gelert Horizon 8 which I think is similar and it's great. Loads of room, wake up dry in the mornings - I would recommend it.

I prefererred the Horizon over Meridian but my dh (who is paying ) prefers the Meridian. Have you camped in it in bad weather, rain, strong winds? We read a few reviews and a few people mentioned it was very difficult to get back in the bag. (I personally don't think any tent is quite as easy as the manufacturers say to put back in bags.)

My friends have the Horizon 8 and we have just bought the Horizon 6 (we haven't used it yet).

It gets very good reviews, and B&Q have it half price in their sale at the moment.

IMO all tents are hard to get back in the bag!

Thanks for you replies. I am almost there convincing my husband the Horizon is the way to go!

we've also got Horizon 8 and I love it. The bags are quite big, and if you fold it carefully you can get it back in OK.

Sorry I didn't answer your question - was away camping.. :)

We were camping in Scotland, and a lot of water fell over two days while we were away - but the only bit og the tent that was wet was the door, and only because we had to go in and out.

Haven't camped in very very strong winds, but it has been windy at tiems and never had a problem.

And its easier to pack than some smaller tents I have had, to be honest!

Have you made a decision?

I bought the 8 in the sale but upgraded it to the 10 when that went down to the same price as we hadn't already pitched the 8.

Soooo happy :o

Just occured to me I bought the Hi Gear Kalahari (same tent, 3000hh not 5000hh) I'm dense :o still love it though!

go outdoors has load of offers on for hi gear tents, we have the voyager but thers a bargain going at the min:

One tip we were told on packing tents away is to roll the tent using the tent poles as a weight and it works like magic, we fitted it all back in and was baggy even with the footprint in!!

We went with the Gelert Meridian 8 to shut dh up in the end, We've set it up in our garden and it was quite easy to put up. Getting back down was ok too. We go camping tomorrow, forecast not brilliant so I'll let you know in a weeks time how we get on!!!

We've just got back from our camping holiday with the new tent. It rained hard for the whole of the first night and on/off for the rest of the week. At times really heavilly and the tent was brilliant. We are really pleased with it.

I have the gelert horizon 6 and love it. Would of got the 8 if I could of afforded it when we were buying. We also have the footprint, carpet and porch.
