Arrrgghh! Stupid bloody weather, now what do I pack?

Going camping for 10 days on friday, I am very excited, more so than the kids. We have never been for more than a long weekend before so I am struggling to pack all the clothes into one case. This damn British weather doesn't help either. I was planning on shorts and t.shirts for all as they are smaller so less room but who knows now? Anyone else having similar trouble? Keep checking the forecast but it changes every few hours .

Do you definitely need to take a case? I'm only asking because they take up quite a lot of room and can't be squished into different shapes.

Definitely take lots of layers. Don't take jeans as they get cold very quickly. Take other trousers. Crocs are pretty good as your feet keep quite warm in them and it doesn't matter if it rains or not. I would say (having two years' summer holidays in Norfolk in very cold weather) that you do not want to be cold as then you will all be miserable.

Fleeces dry quickly after they've got wet, so they're good to take, too.

Their are 4 of us and going for 10 days so think we will need a case, we have a large car so should fit in we always leave the case in the car whilst camping anyway. Think I may go and buy some cheap jogging bottoms as we all usually wear jeans.

we are going camping on saturday for the week so have the same problem, but i am going to pack shorts t-shirts, a couple of pairs of jeans, hoodies/fleeces, trainers and flip flops. When u are away u tend to just put up with the weahter and wear what ever you have whereas at home i would be wrapping the kids up when we are away they are happy in the rain wearing a t-shirt and shorts

scurryfunge · 20/07/2010 12:06

I would pack less, take some hand wash and rely on a tumble drier on site if the weather is too wet to dry the clothes.(if you are going to a large site of course)

MisSalLaneous · 20/07/2010 12:24

Take a couple of pairs of tights - good to wear under your jeans / pj's if it gets too cold.

NeatFreak · 20/07/2010 12:36

If you (and dc) wear 3/4 length/ cropped trousers they can be worn with wellies in the rain and flip flops/ trainers in the sun- stops the bottoms getting wet in the rain but wellies keep the legs warm! It means you don't need to pack trousers AND shorts...

I am taking a mumsnet break from my packing for my 2 1/2 week camping trip later this week.

I too am a bit at what to take so now my packing pile is a mile high .

As a general rule I pack more warmer wet weather clothes. 3/4 length or cropped trousers are ideal for camping as the bottoms dont drag in wet grass. I save my poor DC's outgrown ankle flapper trousers - ones that fit but a bit short in the leg just for wet chilly days when camping but they do lack on style!

Fleeces,waterproofs, wellies and socks.

If you are short on space - 2 pairs of shorts per person - if its that hot you will be able to handwash them & get them dry in time for the next day. I would rather do that than be shivering cold and wet with no more dry warm clothes to wear in a typical british summer.

Thanks all, I think 3/4 trousers, wellies and flip flops are the way to go. We all have fleece tops so maybe a few t-shirts too.
Just checked and yes their is a tumble dryer on site so packing the travel wash .

Same prob here- we're off for a week on Saturday to Norfolk.Weather forecast at mo looks pretty good, although few light showers forecast in middle of the week.

I've sorted piles out each- subject to change lol

Each person

Underwear
socks
pjs

shorts (all our shorts are either knee or 3/4 length)
t-shirts
2 long sleeved t shirts
1 pair jeans
2 tracksuit bottoms
fleece
2 hooded sweatshirts
fleece
waterproof jacket
sun hat
swimming togs

trainers
wellies (Kids) walking boots (dp+ me)
crocs/flip flops

Laundry Room on site with washer and dryer, so can use that in an emergency (although I'd rather not)
