Have you lost weight by eating cereal?

I’m fed up of trying to lose weight, same goes with thinking of what to make each day. Do you think you can lose weight by eating healthier cereal- ie weetabix, porridge, plain sugarless cornflakes? I find it so liberating not having to think of what to eat

For all three meals?

it would put you into a deficit but would also leave you nutritionally deficient

dogsandbudgey · 20/10/2025 17:37

No, sorry but for all meals but for lunch ( I dot eat breakfast) I find it fills me and I don’t snack

You will be starving due to lack of protein.

It depends what your calorie allowance is and whether it puts you into a deficit or not

Cereal makes me really hungry!

dogsandbudgey · 20/10/2025 17:43

i had been adding protein powder to my milk lol it’s been filling me up. I don’t like sandwiches so I struggle for lunches plus I’m always so busy at lunch I don’t have time to construct anything fancy.

Reminds me of the special. K diet in the late 90s/early 2000s, was advertised by kellogs- have a bowl of special k instead of lunch.
I think as a short term fix to lose a few pounds before a holiday but it's OK but it's not a long term solution.
I do get what you mean about head space though!

Can you stir your protein powder into Greek yogurt instead, and top with berries.

dogsandbudgey · 20/10/2025 17:53

Funnily enough I was doing that with frozen berries for ages but it’s getting cold and I suppose I was getting bored but absolutely I agree it’s a tasty and filling idea x

I did the Special K ‘Drop a dress size in 2 weeks’ challenge in the early 00’s! Did it for 3 weeks and dropped 1.5 dress sizes. It was enough to give me a kick start but probably not very good for you long term. Hence not having seen them advertise it for a number of years now!

I lost weight by stopping having cereal for breakfast and switching to plain yogurt and high protein granola. I was calorie counting and realised the cereal didn't fill me up enough to use my precious calories on it.

MsTamborineMan · 20/10/2025 18:13

Things like porridge and weetabix are absolutely fine for lunch. If you find them filling, easy to make and enjoyable, and they are within your deficit then why not?

A bowl of porridge is good fuel, especially if you mix in some fruit and a dollop of yoghurt. Oats are high in fibre, nutrient dense and they aren't low in protein. Certainly better than a sandwich.

I lost weight by cutting out cereal first breakfast & having eggs instead.

when I eat cereal I get hungry mid morning.

pambeesleyhalpert · 20/10/2025 18:35
