Calories in an egg

How many calories are you guys giving an egg?

I weigh my eggs prior to cracking them so raw, they are usually 55-65g which I believe is a medium egg.

I usually have them poached and I give them 100 calories per egg. Does this sound too much or too little?

79 calories for a large egg. Can’t imagine poaching them adds calories

MiddleAgedDread · 27/03/2025 12:02

why would the calories changed when poached??

aIwaysconfused · 27/03/2025 12:04

Nooo I know the calories don’t change when an egg is poached , I just stated I make them poached lol. Thanks guys I think 100 is too much

Have you looked in the box? I've got large eggs in my fridge and they say 85calories per egg (boiled). The weight per 100g is given from boiled weight too which doesn't help if you're weighing them raw to poach!

IIf I have a poached egg on a slice of medium wholemeal toast I count 200 Cals. The toast is a bit over 100 and the egg a bit under. Otherwise I round up to the next 100 for most things just to be conservative ( unless they’re weighed).

it's roughly one calorie per gram of egg in shell

I use a program called cronometer. Similar to nutricheck.
I like boiled eggs, so weigh it without the shell once cooked. A typical egg (from the brand I get) is about 53gm weight which is 82 calories.
I simply weight everything and the eggs tend to range from 49-59gms from the same brand.
