I eat a lot of bread, pasta and potatoes. If I don’t eat carbs I don’t feel satisfied and start craving them.
What can I eat instead ?

I live on peanuts.

If you're talking about part of a meal, then cauliflower cheese, roasted radishes, celeriac etc. replace the carbs.

If you're going low carb, then the carb cravings go quite quickly. I do want chips, but I know that if I eat them, my blood sugar goes through the roof and I'll have to go through keto hell again. So that's a big incentive not to eat carbs.

Can take a few days of withdrawal to get through before the craving stops - and it can be hard until you get there. I find high fat protein helps. If I need to get back on the wagon I often buy a lamb breast joint and eat lots of that with veg, or use a spoonful of peanut butter as a snack when my body's screaming it's still hungry, and that seems to help get through it quicker. It's much easier to then move on to lower fat protein and less protein than it was to get off the carbs!

So what do you all eat at dinner time instead of a sandwich ?
Salad doesn’t fill me up.

Tuna salad
Scrambled eggs on one slice of brown bread
Soup
Baked salmon and green veg

Hi, try looking at Lo Dough, they do low carb and low calorie wraps, cakes etc

A good amount of protein and low carb veg or salad. Protein and fat help to fill you up, so olive oil dressing etc help.

Or I like a mixed plate of things like a little cheese, smoked meat, nuts, chopped salad veg and fruit, hummus - little odds and ends, small amounts, but again enough protein and fat that its satisfying. (I do eat fruit, despite the carbs.)

Cheesy things, nutty things, quinoa and cauliflower instead of rice, lettuce wraps, buttered veg with fish (or meat).

When you go very low carb your appetite reduces and you can fill up on meat and vegetables. I think people often miss the taste of bread and other carbs so they often make low carb breads and use low carb vegetables to make a potato substitute but not because they are hungry.

Courgetti, cauliflower rice and celeriac chips are a good alternative in cooked meals.

PolarnOPirate · 17/02/2021 22:02

Lunch - always a big salad or half of one of those tubs of fresh pasta. I make these incredible crackers which are only made from seeds and salt (so, calorific!) and whack some cheese on, if I want something to go with the soup. Heaven!

Dinner - swede chips/mash/lettuce wraps/courgetti/cauliflower rice, to replace the alternatives.
Often I'll just have dinner without a carb replacement though, for example today we had fajitas and I just had the filling, salsa, guac, cheese but no wrap.

PolarnOPirate · 17/02/2021 22:02

*fresh soup!! Not fresh pasta!

Labobo · 17/02/2021 22:03

Soup is filling. Have a home made veg soup and a salad with protein: chicken, ham, eggs, tofu, edamame beans.

Try complex carbs that keep you full longer - small portion of brown rice bulked out with other veg e.g. mushrooms, courgettes, onions.

If you need a filling carb fix home popped corn sprinkled with salt and paprika is good. But not if you are doing low-carb.

I lost loads of weight over the last 8 months. Didn’t follow any ‘diet’, just ate smaller portions of carbs at meals, cut out snacks unless something like carrots, a satsuma or some cottage cheese and an oat cake.

I don’t routinely eat puddings anyway, and stopped buying crisps, choc and ice cream.

Hm2020 · 18/02/2021 17:11

I fill up on veg cauliflower rice steam bags from Iceland, bare naked noodles (if you can face them) I have route veg mash made myself so nothing hidden in it just swede and corrot and I splash of alpro coconut milk with salt and pepper.

afrikat · 18/02/2021 17:16

You need lots of protein, fats and fibre to fill you up - once I stopped eating carbs I realised I felt much more satisfied without them and don't get blood sugar crashes and hangry between meals

I have a salad for lunch, with lots of avocado, nuts and either oily fish, chicken or eggs. Dinner might be steak with kale, broccoli and greenbeans, or baked chicken with loads of veg, salmon stir fry (just veg and nuts, no noodles)

Soup is also filling especially if you add lentils
