How many calories to lose?

I've tried googling but answers vary wildly.

5'8"
14st6
Mildly active (can run, haven't been.out in the ice/snow but walk a fair bit weekly)

I want to lose roughly 3st, to get me into a healthy weight range.

Currently using MyNetDiary app to budget for 1700 cals/day. Now that I've gotten my head round it, that seems plenty. I've only been at it for a week and a half, so I haven't lost loads. (My scales are rubbish, maybe 1lb?)

Is this too many calories, or a good start?

The recommended guidelines for weight loss if you are a woman are normally 1500 a day. Did you add up the amount you normally consume before starting? That can be a good starting point to work out your baseline.

Hi, try the Nutracheck app, it will work it out for you. I'm the same height and weight as you and get 1700 a day to lose 1.5lb a week. I'm aiming for just under 13 stone Smile

I go by a deficit of 3,500 calories a week to lose a pound. So find your tdee and say that's 12,000 a week. Take 3,500 away from that, divide the result by 7 and that's your daily calorie allowance. I use Sparkpeople to track my calorie intake and have lost 16lbs since January 1st. I do have days (and weekends) where i go way over but i just start again the next day (or the next).

You can try to calculate it here: www.yazio.com/en/calorie-intake-calculator
I use the Yazio app myself and for me it has worked great so far! Been using it since January and have already lost 12lbs :) Finally something seems to work for me..
Good luck to you! I'm sure you can do it, too!

Thanks! That has me at 2100 or so, which is way more than I expected. Maybe I'll see how I get on with 1700 for a while, knowing I can increase if needed.

But I have to reduce calories as my weight goes down anyway...
