My Fitness Pal - why is the search function so crap?

I have just downloaded this app after not using it for some time, and trying to enter things I haven't entered before.

It's not finding anything, except foods I've entered previously.

The only search categories are 'recent', 'frequent' and 'my foods'.

I don't want to search under any of those.

I seem to recall it being much more user friendly - but it's not as obvious this time.

I use the website on my phone's net browser. Try that?

It works for me just fine I type in Sainsbury's chicken thighs or whatever or just scan the barcode and only very rarely does it not find what I want.

It works well for me too. I like the barcode scanning function.

When you type in the search bar it will automatically bring up what you've entered not what you haven't - you have to actually hit search for it to search the database.

You need to ignore 'recent' etc. They're not search areas, but types of auto-fill for when you are searching.

Just type in the food you want in the search box. It'll say underneath it something like 'none found in Recent - search all foods?' Hit search on your keyboard or click on 'all foods' and it'll do the search you want.
