MFP on 1500 cals a day - does this sound a lot?

Am a ghastly 12 stone 10lbs, and have started using MFP. I am 'allowed' 1500 cals a day, for a 1lb a week weight loss (would like more but trying to be sustainable!) but been reading these threads and seen that people often appear to be on 1200 a day, even when similar weights to myself. I tried to eat less on Day 1 but couldn't - am also a Type 1 diabetic - and am now wondering if I'm not going to lose much, but just won't put any more on?
Please can you share your thoughts and experiences! Am desperate to start feeling confident again and get despondent and fall off the wagon very easily!

Not sure about the diabetes but for me for the first week I always struggle to stick to the calories as I feel faint so I eat when I need it, even if it takes me over but always log it. By the second week my body is more used to it and it's easier to stick to. Good luck, it's hard at first but gets easier.

Thank you! I guess I really just need to wait and see, and possibly avoids scales for a few weeks, but I also realise I'd be really motivated to see a few pounds off straightaway or really pissed off with no loss. I am certainly consuming less, I just hope it's cut down enough to make a difference!

Hi I've been calorie counting & exercising a lot for about one month now . Eating 1200 Cals a day, a stone lighter than you & aiming for 2 lbs per week. I found it really tough for about 3 weeks because I ate a lot of food. In fact I wasn't being honest with myself about how much I was eating so that's why it was so difficult.

However after those few weeks I feel fine on 1200 & have started to see a difference in my body.

I've only lost 2 lbs but my clothes are looser & my belly is flatter so I knows it's working.

Are you eating less & cleaning your diet or just eating less?

I know lots of diabetics & it will be a big struggle for you but don't give up, it really does take time.

I've swapped to calorie counting from low carb recently. I'm also on 1500 a day, although I am heavier than you (14st). I've lost 3lb the past week from logging everything on mfp and sticking to 1500 cals. I also noticed a lot of people do 1200 but I would struggle to stick to that.

What sort of things do you eat? I am generally having porridge for breakfast, wholemeal pitta with salad and meat for lunch. Dinners have been a variety of things - homemade chicken korma, fish curry, Moroccan chicken with cous cous. I have had an apple for a snack most days. I meal plan and cook everything from scratch.

I'm sure you will be fine on 1500. I worried about it at first but my first weigh in has shut me up Grin I've decided if my losses slow down I'll try and reduce to 1400 and re-assess.

I started 2.5 weeks ago, just using MFP, and it gave me 1300 a day for 2lbs/week loss. I'm super fat though, started out 14st 9lbs with 5 stone to lose. I've lost 9lbs so far, so it's definitely working!
You have to be honest about what/how much you eat though; and I've found I gravitate a lot more to fruit and veg as you can eat loads of them and they've got very few calories in them. Also eating a lot less processed shit - cooking from scratch with fresh veg, apples/bananas instead of biscuits, and so on!

Hi - my MFP has given me 1670 allowance. I weigh 10 stone 6lb , amd am 5'6. Aiming for 2 lb loss a week at first and am lightly active. Reading yours this seems to many calories?

1200kcal is really low, too low for most people unless you're older or very short. I eat 1500-1900kcal a day depending on my level of activity and lose weight pretty steadily.
