Help! Why am I sabotaging myself?

Lost 3 stone with mfp. Now within 10 lbs of goal and I can't stop eating. Put on 2 lbs last week Hmm

It's cake, chocolate all that food I know I don't need.

I promised myself a new wardrobe at goal weight. I don't understand why I have lost control again.

Have been yo yoing my whole adult life so this is not new territory.

How do I get myself back in the right mindset?

Thanks in advance Smile

How long has it taken to lose the 3 stone?

firstpost · 26/11/2013 14:20

I had a baby in July and started the diet 1st August. I had originally lost 3 stone the previous year got within 4 pounds of goal, then pregnant and pigged out completely Hmm

Just feel so annoyed with myself.

I want so much to be slim yet here I go again.

I would say DON'T PANIC!!!

Give yourself a break from trying to lose weight and just try and keep stable for the next few months.

Have a small amount of chocolate, there's no need to binge if you know you are "allowed" some every day or two.

Step off the treadmill for a bit and get used to eating in a way that will keep your weight even without having to be super-strict in order to achieve any more losses.

Maybe you could try something like the 5:2 - so you can eat normally (including chocolate and cake, just not to excess) most days and just be disciplined for 2 days a week.

Thanks Smile

Panic about sums it up! It seems I am only 'on' or 'off' my diet. No shades of grey .. Perhaps 5 to 2 would suit me.

To put into context I have never been into baking at all. Suddenly I am obsessed with baking cakes and pies, 3 today in fact! It's just so extreme.

I think part of me wants me to fail? Just can't for the life of me understand why Hmm

I suggest taking Magnesium to curb chocolate pangs, Wassen's Magnesium from Boots I take.

The hour going back doesn't help. Vit D3 maybe? Or get up an hour earlier? You could be in hibernation mode.

And at some point of the day, settle back with a 1.5 litre bottle of water and work your way through it.

And try lots of treats, just healthy ones.

Oh, can you do a 10-minute run before brekkie? It's very hard to get aerobic exercise done and still want these sugary snacks.

Beastofburden · 07/12/2013 13:55

Take a good multivitamin and iron and increase the amount of exercise you are taking?

RedLondonBus · 07/12/2013 13:55

I'm a bit like this. I think its because

1/ xmas is approaching and I think 'well i'll be over indulging then,so might as well not worry about what I eat now....xmas parties start here this weekend so no point in being strict til new year....'

2/ I have lost 5 stone this year....got fit at bootcamp and loved every minute of it. getting fat again will mean I can do it all over again! Hmm

RedLondonBus · 07/12/2013 13:55

and don't worry everyone,i realise how ridiculous that all sounds,i honestly do!

Same happened to me. Between the middle of January and September I had lost weight without too much problem and then all of a sudden I became hungry. As I had lost weight I needed to increase my exercise and perhaps the balance between exercise and food was no longer right. Anyway I decided as I had lost so much weight I could afford to increase the amount of daily calories by 100-200. That meant the weight loss was more gradual but I was still losing weight.

Also I find complete deprivation is unrealistic and doesn't work so I do eat lower calorie sweet things sometimes, although I try to avoid sugar and white flour. For example banana loaf, carrot cake, apple and cinnamon cake, pancakes, muffins and scones. They aren't difficult to make and tend to be lower calorie than ready made stuff. Instead of sugar I use fruit and natural lower GI sweeteners such as agave syrup. Although agave has the same calories as sugar you need to use less (typically 50% less) so it helps to keep the calories down.

BTW recently I was ill and couldn't eat. Afterwards I didn't have the energy for hard workouts and I had the appetite of a horse. Unfortunately because I hadn't be able to shop whilst I was ill I ate the visitors supply of mince pies etc and after a week I had gained half a stone. The following ten days or so I had my work cut out in the gym loosing it again.

I am now determined to eat in moderation over Christmas and maintain my weight rather than losing weight. I've lost 11 stone in total and no way do I want to put on a lot of weight again. My aim is to keep counting the calories as usual but not worry too much for one meal a week until the new year, although I still intend to stick to the healthier options.

ProfessorDent · 09/12/2013 12:21

Have you tried protein shakes? They are tasty and high protein.

I have found personally that there is a point where your blood sugar levels adjust (after a good few months) and once that happens, you burn off calories easily. Until that point it can be a bind, as they are simply biding their time until more sugar comes their way again and bang! On goes the weight again.

That is why fad diets work for those who maybe are only half a stone overweight from the base (lowest) level, their fat cells are efficient enough to get to work, whereas over that, you will be fat because of inefficient fat cells and that takes a bit more time to change.

Is there a thread on Nigella's amazing Zero Noodles yet?

Poppylovescheese · 15/01/2014 07:45

firstpost: I could have written your post! I lost 2.5 stone last year and now with 7lbs to go I am self-destructing. I put 4lbs on over Xmas and can't stop eating! I have switched from weight watchers to map in a bid to keep a closer eye on what I am eating but I keep on reaching for the junk!
