AntiBullying Week 17 - 21 November 2008

Did you know that it is Anti-Bullying week in the UK from 17th November?
My own children's Primary School has not broadcast anything to the parents in previous years, despite the fact they have problems with bullying - as do most schools.

Does your school get involved at all? Do they do anti-bullying activities?

Their schools do get involved and they get a talk and leaflet with a link to the website I think it might be this one

DS secondary school spent a whole day last year during antibullying week with no lessons just antibullying workshops. They had a bullybusters system in place already.

DSs school are having a day where everyone dresses in blue to raise awareness of bullying. Also it is DS2's Year 2 class assembly on thursday. The subject is bullying. The new-ish head is trying to tackle the issue, and has just written a new behaviour policy.

Yes, ds1 is in yr1 and today he spent 50p on a anti bullying wristband, he demanded yesterday he was taking in his own money for this and proudly left the classroom this afternoon wearing it. He then asked if he could wear it over the Christmas holiday because he wants everyone to know he wont put up with any bullying! He was a bit puzzled though why the one 'bully' in his class bought one too though (bit sad as I know his mum and all she wants is for him to be a normal little lad who is liked, sometimes things are not straightforward for some )

A bit of a long story but when DS started Secondary he was bullyed by two of his friends, had enough and sent some very rude texts to them.
Texts business got sorted out at school, however one of the boys stored the text and on the antibullying day went up to ds and threatened to tell form tutor about texts and that ds was bullying him.
This boy is a bully but he always claims to be the victim of bullying to his parents, he ended up in serious trouble for cyber bullying other boys later that year.

We just told DS next time he makes that threat then just say "ok we are going to see Mr A now."
This boy just never sees what he does as bullying and if anyone ever retaliates, he goes running to mum and dad, with the poor me, I am being bullied sob story.

My elder daughter's school is doing some activities today. We have not heard anything about the Primary school, but that does not surpise me. The elder one was bullied there for 3 years before we managed to get it stopped.
