dd getting hard time because of warts

how can I help her? she's year 2 and has had problems last year with one girl excluding her from groups

now, this girl has homed in on her warts on her fingers and now no-one will play with dd

feel hesitant about going to the school as have already been this term for something else, but in the class room, think teacher thought I was neurotic

am really fed up - feel like just taking her away from the school and protecting her

Children can be so mean sometimes!

I would definately have a quiet word with her teacher, that is very unkind behaviour and needs nipping in the bud.

Hopefully, a sensitive teacher will help sort it out.

newpup, I feel she wouldn't be sympathetic, not sure why, just a feeling

and also, wouldn't it make more children notice her warts? if they haven't alrady?

I have been to the doctor, who said there are too many to freeze off (she has lots f clusters on her finger tips)

am trying homeopathy now...

Well,

If you can't freeze the warts off

and

You don't think the teacher can solve the problem

and (presumably) your daughter is really unhappy,

then it looks like

"just taking her away from the school and protecting her" might be another answer...

I sometimes feel like a complete on-your-doorstep-with-her-Watchtower-magazine Home Ed evangelist, so I'm trying not to give you the hard sell, but if it'd solve the problem while you get rid of the warts, then maybe it's worth exploring...

(or maybe it would be a crazy overreaction to what might be a small and shortlived problem, only you can tell)

are you a home educator, O&U? so tempted, her year seems to be a couple of nasty girls and the rest are all easily led by them

re the warts - am not treating them with cream as doctor said not to as it wouldn't work (?)

going to give the homeopathy a go, maybe that would work

re. treating them - there are just so many on each finger that the doctor said any cream/freezing would be just too much

dinny i dont know what to say really so im sorry but i just wanted to sympathise with you, both me and my brother suffered with warts on our fingers when we were younger, my brother had them for a number of years at primary school and oddly he grew out of them?? which i never really understood i must admit as i didnt think they could just go away!? and i was fine until senior school when my fingers just erupted for some reason when i was about 14, it was so embarassing i used to hide my hands constantly, i thankfully had them frozen off and that was that. it is awful and i really feel for you and your daughter, i wish i had an idea as to what you could do, im sorry!

Yup.

If you really are tempted, then I'd join one or other of the Home Education email lists and start asking for advice. I think the friendliest one is the early years one, and the families on that list certainly have children as old as year 2, but you might also like to try the education otherwise list, which is one of the biggest lists, or the home education network UK here which is also a very friendly list but aimed at all ages.

It's not a one-way street - you wouldn't be making a decision now which would be irreversible for the next 9 years or anything.

My dd had this at the same age and one particular girl made a fuss and refused to hold her hand when they were walking to the library,I had a word with the teacher and she had a word with the child.As for the warts they just disappeared without treatment.Hope she feel happier soon.

was just looking at patient.co.uk and it says they usually disappear within 2 yrs though that seems like eternity when your life is being made a misery it also mentions some laser dye therapy thing though i dont know what that is whether thats an alternative to having them frozen as thats not viable.

warts are a result of a viral infection, as i understand it the hpv virus which has 100 different types by the by so dont let yourself get massively worried by that! so your daughter has caught them of someone else at some point, thats how i read it on the website though feel free to holler at me if im wrong i dont mind a telling off! which makes me feel slightly sad as when my sister used to babysit us she used to get her warty friend to threaten to rub her warts all over us if we were naughty and she bloody did! so perhaps thats how my brother and i got them and the virus was just latent for a while, i know that is gross by the way, urrgh, i need to get some wine!

I would buy something and treat them ANYWAY, it cant make them worse than they are can it?
(Google to find out! Just in case) But then at least you and dd would be battling the warts together, IYKWIM.

Dear Dinny - please try this: Rub your dds warts with a piece of steak and then bury the steak in the garden. Within a month the warts will disappear. Its an old wives tale but worked for my brother (he had 45 warts on his hands at the time) and for me (I had a few on my knees) when my mum tried it on us in the 60s and 70s, before over-the-counter wart rememdies were available.

I am so convinced I will certainly try this before anything else if my dcs ever get warts.

Please don't think I'm a loon cos I'm really not!

I had a hell of a lot over my hands at one point when i was younger and tried all the old wifes tales but none worked for me then i used the bazuka stuff from the chemists and they all went within 2 weeks.

i feel your pain. dd1 had a biug wart on her nose, after the third appearence, and it getting bigger each time, we use some acid gel on perscription from the GP, and it fell off after two weeks (but looked horrible during the treatement as it went white and black). we treated it due to bullying as well, and a oh-so-lovely yr 6boy said she was ugly.

dd3 has about 5 on her hands atm. could be more, but one hand is bandaged so cant see under that one to check. i am just leavign them to go on their own, but she is only 3, and just starting nurser, so am hoping it wont be a problem bullyng wise. she also has a couple of the fingertps under her nails.

I took dd to a homeopath yesterday and will try the remedies for the next couple of weeks

if nothing, will try some Bazuka/go back to dr I think

bloody kids can be so horrible - Misdee, did you speak to the school about bullying of dd?

no i didnt, as it was random and not ongoing iykwim. it was just a few comments. so i dealt with what was causing the problem (the wart)( and since then nothing has been said.

yeah, I suppose my hackles are up as it is the girl who did bully/exclude dd last year who has been making the comments and the others have followed her lead of not playing with dd.

God, if only she had one could deal with them probbaly - it's the sheer number that is the prob

My dd has warts on her fingers and has just asked why she's got them...can we do anything about them. I think something has been said at school, but she won't admit it (doesn't deny it either, though, which is very telling).

We're trying the bazuka too and if that doesn't work, I'll take dd to docs.

In terms of the bullying, it's one of those things that crops up with kids and if your dd hadn't got warts, they'd invent something, if they really want to pick on her. I hate bullies/bullying, as do most people and really sympathise with you. It's so worrying as a parent to have to deal with this kind of nonsense, but I hope you manage to resolve this quickly.
