What to do about abusive text message to DD

DD2 (aged 11) has got an enemy of school. They were previously part of the same friendship group, but they fell out several weeks ago, and now, according to DD this girl hates her. I have advised DD that not everyone can like her, and she just has to move on and try and focus on other friendship groups. Now things have escalated, and DD has received a text message from this girl calling her a cunt.

I spoke to a teacher about it, who is willing to intervene and try and help sort it out, but said it was a bit of a grey area because it happened outside of school hours. Just wondered what anyone thinks about this. To me, it is clearly a school-related issue, since the girls met at school and have to see each other every day at school. And it is ruining DD's school life because she is having to see this girl every day and deal with the cold stares.

DD doesn't actually want a teacher to get involved, because she thinks it's going to make things worse. But for me, this has gone too far, and I can't ignore it. What else can I do to help?

School's response isn't good enough, they need to sort this out. Ask to see their anti-bullying policy, there should be something in there regarding this area.

Also can you go above this teacher and speak to the HoY or head teacher?

Keep the text and show it to school. It impacts school life so it is their responsibility.

DD is 13 and at her school they take Facebook bullying seriously, and that always happens outside of school hours.

To be clear, most schools now see Internet bullying seriously and do class it as bullying even though it happens off site. It is still bullying

Thanks. That's useful. I have already gone straight to the head of year. I am going to see what happens. To be fair, she has offered to get involved. But I was surprised that she put in the caveat about it being a grey area. Why are girls of this age so completely vile to each other?
