Can I breast feed while on pain medication and antibiotics?

I originally planned on breast feeding and bottle feeding but the birth was so traumatic and ended in an emergency c section that I just didn’t feel like breast feeding when they asked me and stool to formula but my breasts are constantly leaking and I want to give mt baby breast milk but I am on co dydramol, co amoxiclav and blood thinning injections I will check the name of now I have already asked Midwide just waiting for a reply

You can express now while you wait for an answer from your midwife, to help keep your supply up.

Blood thinners must be fine as everyone gets those after a section I think, I certainly did and BF

The antibiotics are fine.

Definitely check out the breastfeeding network! If those drugs aren't on their website you can message them on Facebook and they'll get back to you pretty quickly.

If you cant breastfeed with those then make sure you ask for alternative pain medication, there are options if you're breastfeeding.

Wait for your midwife to get it checked out properly, some drugs pass into breast milk and small, unwell or pre-term infants are more susceptible to their effects because their organs aren't as developed and may not excrete them as well.

The midwife may see if you can switch from codydramol to plain paracetamol so there's no opioids in your milk for example. Provided your baby is healthy and full term the other things should be fine BUT wait for them to get it checked in case there's other info that is relevant.

Are you still having blood thinning injections or are you home now? What have the midwives/doctors told you about breastfeeding with these drugs?

@CandyLeBonBon yes I am still having them the midwife said it’s safe and I also called triage and triage also said the medications I have been given are all standard and safe to give breast milk to baby
