did anyone else's formula powder go off in heat?

So...

DS aged 15 months has a bottle in his cot before sleep.

Tonight, I give him the bottle. He starts crying and hands it back. This is very unusual behaviour. So I sniff the milk and think to myself 'well I made this at least 30 mins ago and it's v hot weather, maybe it went off'.

I run downstairs, DS still crying, open a new pack of Aptamil and bring him another bottle. He does the same thing a second time.

I go back downstairs, get cow's milk from the fridge, sniffing the new formula box en route (seems to smell not quite right, definitely).

DS drinks the cow's milk fine.

Later I test the other two boxes of unopened formula I have sat in the kitchen - they both also smell odd.

I've chucked 3 and a half boxes of formula in the bin (ie 25 quid's worth, ha).

Did anyone else have this experience over the last week, with the hot weather - or is it just me!

i am pretty sure powdered milk doesn't go off in heat.... maybe it was a dodgy batch? or maybe your paranoia got the better of you? maybe ds just decided he prefers cow's milk

(in fact, why are you still buying formula???)

Why am I still buying formula?

Er ... don't know really.

It's all in the bin now anyway, so maybe this is the moment to say goodbye to it!

I think you should take it back to the shop or if you have no receipt e-mail the manufacturer. If there is a potential problem then it should be highlighted.

Hope all is well with your ds

agree with onepiece, take it back to the shop just in case there is a problem with it. or contact aptamil and let them know

and yes, if ds is happy with cows milk then give him that, much cheaper

mrsbaldwin · 02/07/2010 22:44

Yes the DS is completely fine, he only took one tiny sip!

Right, I will take it back (and maybe will post here what happens next!).
