Did Dr Browns bottles help with bottom end wind, or just top end?

DS (18 weeks) has just started with terrible, waking him up, hours to pass it and settle him wind? about 5 days now (coincided with first tooth coming through, so don't know if the two may be related?!)

He was breastfed til 3 weeks ago when we gradually changed to formula in readiness for me getting back to work - this was fine without any obvious change in windiness (either end) until 5 days ago?.

We're using cow and gate comfort (used successfully with DD who was also quite windy)

Just wondering what else (in addition to massage and cycling) may help and have had a couple of people recommend Dr Browns? but i can't find anything saying if they help with bottom end wind as well as top end (which isn't an issue (at the moment at least!!)

thanks!

My DS also had terrible trapped wind particularly at night not relieved by massage or anything else over the counter. We used a supplement from the health food shop (can also buy on line) which I had seen recommended on here (I think) a couple of years back. It's called ABC Dofilus made by Solgar and is basically a friendly bacteria like in actimel drinks etc. It is pricey at £15 but you keep it in the fridge and it lasts a while as you onlu use it once a day. I only needed to buy 1 bottle.

I realise not everyone will be hapy to try this sort of thing but it worked a treat for my DS and I will give you more info if you want it.

I was wondering if you know which health food shops stock ABC dophilus or how old babies have to be before they can have it?

It sound like just what my DS needs, but when I asked in my local independent health food shop, they didn't know of anything like it.

Sorry I don't but I know Holland & Barrett don't have it. It's made by Solgar so you need someone who stocks their products or you could buy it online but I just looked in yellow pages & phoned a couple of local places.

Solgar have info online but it tends to be American. They don't give an age but we gave it from just a few weeks old- 1/4 teaspoon in bottle at teatime added just before warming. This definately worked as the trapped wind was worst at night just don't add to hot/boiling water as it kills the bacteria apparently!

my DD (11 weeks - my god where does the time go!) is prone to trapped wind too. We were having a terrible time of it until a friend who is a natropath suggested i make her formula up with a weak infusion of chamomile tea.

i was sceptical but figured we didn't have much to lose. The effect was amazing. She is bringing her wind up so easily now with none of the griping and cramping she was experiencing before. She also seems much more regular poop wise.

I make up 2 litres of tea (1 teabag per litre) while the bottles are sterilizing and make the formula up with that. Doesn't seem to adversely affect the taste of the formula. She has never turned her nose up at it.

Hope that helps.

thanks for your replies!

I've tried to find the Solgar stuff to give it a go, but everywhere i've found online is currently out of stock

might try the chamomile tea instead!
