Overfeeding a b/f baby?

I have anecdotally heard that you cannot overfeed on breastmilk, but don't think I have read that anywhere "proper".

So is it true? DD when she is upset just sucks and sucks, and then throws it all up again. She definitely seems greedy rather than hungry sometimes. I am going with it, but I was just wondering if its true that you can't overfeed?

BF babies regulate their own intake - however they might overfeed if they're overtired (so trying to feed to sleep), or have a tummy bug or reflux.

My DS has silent reflux (basically heartburn) and fed fed fed. He leapt from the 75th centile to 99 centile in the first 12 weeks.

here is a website with symptoms

My mum was told this, I used to throw up most feeds and because I was being breastfed they did lots of investigations as they thought there was something wrong.

There wasn't any reason, I was just greedy. Even now I have a tendency to overeat

DD1 would feed for up to 1.5 hours (usually 45-60min per feed) puke for a few minutes. I'd clean up puke, change nappy and sit back down with her as she would want to feed again.

She had reflux (unsurprisingly) but went down to the 2nd %ile from the 50th rather than Igglybuff's baby who shot up!

Some babies use a non-nutritive suckle which gives them the satisfaction of nursing but with out the milk. Kind of like sugar free gum for babies Some babies don't seem to do this (or just love the taste and feeling of getting milk) and will gorge til the milk's up to their ears.

Not really much you can do but you could try keeping baby upright/in bouncer after a feed or taking baby off in the middle of a feed to wind and see if she still wants more.
