Allowing baby to self-wean

Hi
I have an 11 month old who is EBF. He was BLW and I'd like him to self-wean from BF too.
He's been feeding just morning and night from about 8-9mths.
My problem is that I'd like to just follow his lead as to when he weans (it was very much following his lead that dropped us down to 2 feeds a day) but I think if I did that now, he wouldn't feed at all!
He certainly wouldn't ask for it in the morning and I'm not completely sure about the evening either. But he's far too young to be having so little milk. Isn't he??

Any thoughts/ ideas would be hugely appreciated!

Thank you (and sorry for the long post!)

xx

Congrats on making it to 11 months and well done to the pair of you.

The technique of don't offer don't offer don't refuse (which is what appears to be happening) will lead to your DS weaning earlier than perhaps he might. I always offer plenty of feeds in a day up to about 18/20 m/o and then play it by ear. DD1 self-weaned at 3.6 y/o, DD2 is nursing at 2.7 y/o and DD3 is nursing at 8 m/o.

Here is some good information regarding early weaning and how much milk a baby needs.

Thanks truthsweet those are great links. Just reading the early weaning info now.

Thank you!

OK I feel really rubbish now. Oh it's horrible when you start to doubt yourself isn't it? I thought he was doing really well with his solids and eating so well - now I'm thinking I've offered too much solids and not enough milk.
Oh bugger!

Don't mean to sound ungrateful TruthSweet - those links were very useful and I'll definitely do some more reading - I certainly expected to be BF a lot longer than this - somewhere between 18mths and 2yrs anyway...

Xx

Sorry to be the bearer of unwanted information prakattack but I guess you'd rather find out now than after DS weaned at 13m/o if you want to carry on feeding til

Yes very true TruthSweet, am definitely glad I asked. Will definitely be doing some thinking and maybe altering what we do over the next few weeks i.e. offering more.

Watch for me coming back asking Qs on BF while TTC/ pregnant etc etc

Just for information's sake I have nursed while pg, tandem nursed and tandem nursed while pg so I am a font of knowledge or should I say font of anecdotal evidence with a sample size of one . Thankfully DD1 weaned the month before DD3 was born . Good luck with TTC.
