breastfeeding - 5 months in and sensitive nipples

Hi, can anyone help me?

I have exclusively breastfed my 5 mo daughter and have recently stopped wearing breast pads during the day as I have no leaks any more.

Since stopping the pads my nipples are extremely sensitive and I have razorblade type pain in one nipple whilst feeding. I can't see any cracks or signs of thrush.

Does anyone have any experience of this or advice?

Is your DD cutting a tooth? Some babies change their position/latch slightly when they teeth, which can make things more sore.

Info on causes of soreness in mothers of older babies can be found here.

I'm really hoping it's teething rather than pregnant. Thanks for the link Angeldog.

Each time ds2 got a new tooth i got a sharp painful patch for a few days then it settled again. Try changing feeding position to see if it helps. Also maybe worth considering if your bra is rubbing, maybe too big without the breast pads?

It could just be a coincidence with the breast pads. I'll keep an eye out for teeth and get my bra size checked next time I'm in town.
