Cow's milk at 11 months?

Ds2 is nearly 11 months, still breastfed morning, evening, and at some point in the night.

I'm at work full time as of next week, dh is SAHD. We've been trying to get him onto a cup for daytime milk with limited success - he'll have a few gulps but nothing much, sometimes 3 or 4 oz but very rarely. I'm trying not to stress about this, as he eats well and I figure he's still getting the good stuff 3 times a day anyway. I'm also feeding him a bit when I'm around but would like to phase this out to keep things simple.

Anyhow, I was wondering if it's ok to just offer full fat cows milk in a beaker now during the day - I'm at the end of my tub of formula and see little point on paying out a small fortune for more when most of it gets tipped down the sink. Is this ok do you think?

I gave my DD cows milk with her food etc from six months. I am not sure why they insist on it not being good to drink too...if you are breast feeding, then I don't see a problem with it.

Although I noted that as my DD got to the 12 month stage she would often not drink much anyway.

I seem to remember that you can offer water at this stage too and diluted juice so don't feel constricted to milk anyway.

I also gave my DTs cows milk from 11 months. They were still getting some breastmilk too, but I didn't want to give formula at all and just don't have time to express so when I wanted to encourage use of cup, cows milk seemed to be the way to go - I figured the 12 month guideline would vary slightly for each child anyway. Interestingly one drinks a reasonable amount of milk from cup, the other almost nothing - real life experiment having twins!

pollymere - I am very interested that you gave cows milk. I have a problem in that my 7 month old will not take any formula, I have tried for over 5 weeks now. This means that if I do go to work that he may only have 2 or 3 bfs a day.

Could my baby have cows milk.

He takes solids and water fine, but will not take formula.

Anyone out there have any advice.

11 months is different to 7 months, the DoH guidelines are bf or ff to one year, then cows milk.
You can use cows milk on cereal, in sauces etc from 6 months but not as main drink from what I remember.
