Will I be able to sustain 1 bf per day?

Hi DD is 11.5 months and most days only takes 2 bf's per day. I'm now back at work and most evenings not home in time for her bedtime feed (v sad but unavoidable). I'm therefore only giving her 1 feed in the
morning. Is my supply likely to continue in order to cope with only one feed or is that unreslistic?

TIA

As far as I know, this should be absoultely fine.

StealthPolarBear · 28/05/2010 20:42

yes, I would imagine so

TigerFeet · 28/05/2010 20:44

I think it will be fine, especially if you can still feed her on the evenings that you aren't at work. I'm sure that there are many women with older babies/toddlers who only feed once or twice a day anyway. Are you still going to feed her on the evenings you aren't at work? That might help a bit too

arghhh repeating myself

I fed my DS2 for 18 months on 2 feeds a day especially during the last 6 months, there were times in that period where I was away for several days through work and we were always able to pick up when I came back.

ImSoNotTelling · 28/05/2010 20:54

Yes it's doable, I have done it

slushy06 · 28/05/2010 22:45

Only fed ds one evening feed for over a year, I had no problems you should be fine .

NotQuiteCockney · 29/05/2010 09:18

From what I know, once you have fed a baby exclusively for months and months, this sort of thing is possible.

It's not possible from birth, or a few months in, just in case anyone under different circumstances reads this thread.

I feed my 10.5 month LO each morning, and have done for last month - works well for us, and a lovely start to the day. One of my friends is also doing the same thing - her LO is a year now.

cockatrice · 29/05/2010 09:25

I gave dd just a pre-bed feed for over a year.

Northernlurker · 29/05/2010 10:11

You will be fine with this at her age. Dd3 had two feeds a day till 16 months then just a bedtime feed till 27 months!

dietcokeandwine · 29/05/2010 13:14

As others have said, should be absolutely fine to drop to just the one feed per day at 11 months or so. As a rough guess I'd suggest that once you've fed for 6 months or so you could probably sustain just one feed a day quite happily.

I've just stopped breastfeeding DS2 at 7 months, and for the last couple of weeks he was having just the one feed in the morning. I could certainly have carried on with just that one feed had I wanted to.

At that age you and dd should be fine, I fed once or twice a day for the best part of a year and I could go away overnight and pick it back up with no problems.

I was worried about my supply drying up in the last few months that I was BFing DS as I was cutting down the number of feeds, until for the last month he was just on one feed at bedtime. When I did actually stop (when he was 11.5 months) I carried on producing milk for nigh on 3 months. Dunno if this is the norm.....
