What it says above really.
DS is 20 weeks, refused to take a bottle for ages, but finally in last week or so has started accepting them off DP, we've never given him more than 1 a day though.

But now he's starting to get frustrated when feeding from me He keeps clamping down on my nipple with his gums (owww!!) instead of doing the sucking motion which a) means that it takes a lot longer to get let down and b) today I know the milk was there coz I could express it by hand, but he kept just clamping down & getting frustrated when he couldn't drink the milk

What should I do?? Haven't given him a bottle for last 2 days in hope of stopping the confusion, but if anything he's just got even worse at feeding I've been so enjoying feeding him up til now but now each feed just feels like a struggle

Weather not helping also, he's been so niggly since the weather's been hotter (never thought I'd complain about English weather being too hot ) so we've spent most of our time indoors with a fan on!!

Please help, definitely don't want to give up on breastfeeding, but at same time would be useful if someone other than me could feed him the odd bottle occasionally...

Not sure I can offer much support. Just wanted to let you know that I had a similiar problem a few weeks ago. Just did what you've been doing by the sounds of things. I responded with a bottle strike of my own, lots of hand expressing into their mouth and even more perserevance. Took until the third/fourth day to see and improvement and another few days to be back to normal. Been back on one EBM bottle a day now for 2 weeks now; of course thats no guarantee for your LO. Good luck and 20 weeks WOW, I made it to 12 weeks of EBF today.

We had this recently too, I think it was more teething related than boob related TBH, the clamping down was his version of chewing and proper sucking hurt his sore mouth so he didn't really want to feed. Every feed was a fight he wanted to feed, but didn't want to suckle, then got upset as he could smell the milk, then sucked but stopped because it hurt etc etc

It lasted about a week (such a horrible week ), BUT he is now back to normal

HTH

Sorry to post & run - DS woke up & started fussing again just after I posted

Thank you for your messages, good to hear that other people have been through this with positive outcomes fingers crossed this doesn't last too long with me either!

DS fed better in the night last night, but now he is properly awake & more aware of what's going on he's back to the clamping I'm meant to be going out for my first night out post-baby tonight but can't exactly leave him with DP whilst banning DP from giving him a bottle so looks like I'm gonna have to stay in...the things we do for our children
