What are the best bottles use when you're exclusively breast feeding but want to express?

Hello,

Pretty much what it says on the tin, what bottles seem to work best when wanting to express and use bottles with a breast fed baby?

Thanks

I just used the Tommy Tippee ones.

Used Medela freezer bags and warmed the defrosted milk still in the bag then poured in.

CharlieRN · 25/05/2010 20:20

I use the Tommy Tippee ones also (the closer to nature ones). My lo took to them straight away, no problem and I haven't had any nipple confusion issues either so far (Not meaning to brag, just tell it as it is). Not sure whether I'm just very lucky with my lo, or whether the bottles are that good, but it is worth giving them a try! Good luck!

CMOTdibbler · 25/05/2010 20:22

I think theres no best bottle - every baby is different in what they prefer, so start with the cheapest, and work up from there

BosomsByTheSea · 25/05/2010 20:23

We used Tommy Tippee closer to nature too - they were great and my ds's had no trouble switching from the the occasional bottle of ebm to breastfeeding.

fiveweeksandcounting · 25/05/2010 20:54

I am using breastflow bottles and they seem fine

cassell · 25/05/2010 21:06

I used the tommy tippee closer to nature ones too, it was quite rare that ds had a bottle of ebm but when he did he was quite happy to take it from those

I did read somewhere though that it helps if the teat on the bottle is a similar shape to your nipple iyswim

Rhian82 · 25/05/2010 21:13

We used the Tommee Tippee ones too, seemed to work fine.

FlipFantasia · 25/05/2010 21:18

Also use the tommee tippee closer to nature ones and have had no problems with my DS taking them - he only has bottles of EBM about 2-3 a week and we've also had no problems with nipple confusion.

jaggythistle · 26/05/2010 11:18

Also TT CTN ones here, tried DS with the odd one from about 4 weeks, he has 2 bottles of EBM while I am at work now and has definitely not forgotten how to breastfeed - gets awfully excited!

PigeonsInFlight · 26/05/2010 11:29

Whichever ones you can get your LO to take. Which in my DDs case was none of them (and believe me we tried the lot!).

I would recommend giving your LO a bottle regularly as soon as breastfeeding is established so they get used to it. I've known a lot of bottle refuseniks!

Morloth · 26/05/2010 16:44

I like Avent cause I like the isis pump, so it is easiest to just get everything that goes together.

DS gets one bottle a week, he isn't that keen TBH, he will drink it but much prefers the breast.

I think it freaks him out a bit that it takes like me but it is DH doing it.

ahedgehogis · 26/05/2010 16:46

DS was happy on Boots wide necked or avent, and had three bottles of EBM a day from 7 months.

DD on the other hand will not take any and have tried Boots, Avent, Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature, Dr Browns. Am going to stay with my mum next week in the hope that she can persuade DD to take a bottle

dinkystinky · 26/05/2010 16:47

MAM were the only ones DS2 would take - at around 7 months. Can use them on Avent bottles.

DS1 was fine with Avent (at around 7 months).

Neither would take them before I had to go back to work.

cheeselover · 26/05/2010 18:03

Tommee tippee. Tried avent as easier with the pump, but ds wasn't having it!

HoopsAndBaby · 26/05/2010 19:12

tommee tippee closer to nature here as well, DS is nearly 8 weeks and takes EBM a couple of times a week, and still goes on the boob

HurleySatOnMe · 26/05/2010 19:13

MAM teats are brilliant. I wasted a fortune on teats for my two before discovering these. I tried all the ones that are meant to be best for breastfed babies, but MAM teats are the actual shape they suck your nipple into when they feed

YanknCock · 26/05/2010 19:16

I just used the Medela standard size teat one that came with my Swing pump. His first bottle of EBM was when he was just under 3 weeks and we never had a problem with confusion. did try the Tommee Tippee health check bottles and they gave him terrible wind. Also the Tommee Tippee one with the wider neck that they can hang on to themselves....I think because DS got used to the standard size teat, he didn't know what to do with the wider ones!

I am still feeding him at 9 months, he takes two bottles of EBM while at nursery now.

ladypop · 26/05/2010 20:50

We tried loads! and have eventually found Medela Special Needs Feeder is one that my son will accept...I think an earlier post is right, whatever your baby will accept! all babies are different and I think it can be trial and error.

I also found we have much more success with a formula/breast milk mix - it seems to change the experience/taste for him and loses the connection in his mind with the breast, which I think was why he was rejecting the bottle so much becaue it wasn't coming out of my boob....probably not what breast feeding moms want to hear, but it is the only thing that will work for us!

Fibilou · 27/05/2010 06:55

Another vote here for Closer to Nature. I have 2 which is plenty

FlightofFancy · 27/05/2010 08:13

Breastflow are good - my DS was happy with TT CTN to start with, then decided that he wasn't playing on bottles at all. Have managed to persuade him to take Breastflow from my DH (if I try, he uses one hand to push the bottle away, while using the other to try and pull my top down!)

Hermya321 · 27/05/2010 22:27

Thanks for these guys, I'll get a mixture and then see what works best.

I spent a fortune on different bottles and dd would not take a single one. They make her either confused or annoyed. The only thing that she will take is milk from a Doidy cup.

AllSheepareWhite · 30/05/2010 18:39

I used Avent for occasional EBM feeds from 12 weeks and DD was fine. When I returned to work PT when she was 7 months, she continued to take EBM from bottle during the day, but I kept the newborn flow teat on always as I didn't want her to get so used to fast flow teat that she would stop wanting milk from me when I was home. That worked well. Sister in law had a very premie baby who couldn't use Tommee Tippee when she had to switch to ff after milk supply dwindled, the teats choked her DD as she had such a small mouth, but Avent worked for her
