he wont drink from a cup and will only have a bottle if it is ebm, not water. mum is harping on that he needs water in this hot weather. he is with me all the time and feeds whenever he wants. it was my understanding that breastmilk contains alot of water?

Your breast milk will adapt to his needs and provide him with the fluids he needs as long as he has unrestricted access, and it sounds like that is the case.

But there is nothing wrong with him having water at this age to quench his thirst.

If he needs water he will take water. My breastfed one year old daughter does drink water out of a cup, but that is her choice. My son didn't drink water at the age of one, but would drink VERY dilute juice.

Breastmilk is fine in hot weather and many babies in very hot countries are exclusively breastfeed at one year.

The only question is whether YOU want him to get all the extra fluids from breastmilk.

he is with me all the time anyway so he feeds as and when he wants, it doesn't bother me in the slightest that he bfeeds for fluids as long as he is getting what he needs. he really wont take it from a cup or bottle. purses his lips together and turns his head away.
