do you feed your baby at the same time every day?

and if you do, how do you manage this if they wake up at different time every day?

my baby is 12 weeks old and breastfed. he feeds every three hours during the day but the actual times of the day depend on what time he first wakes at. this then dictates the times for the rest of the day and so affects the time of his last feed and therefore his bedtime.

what do you do???

I do exactly the same as you - depending on when DD wakes her last feed can be 8, 9 or 10.

I've actually got far more relaxed about feeding times as time has gone on (she's 13w now).

I know we are supposed to put a bedtime routine in place and I suppose I will try to give her an extra feed somewhere to 'true up' the times once we get around to the routine. I have no idea when that will be though!

At 12 weeks I'm afraid you just go with it!

3 hourly is really good going for a bf baby at that age.

nicky - yes, im really happy that its three hours and that the feeds arent the mammoth sessions they used to be! just curious really as to how other people do it and if im doing it the same or different to others!!

Nope, he has 2 feeds that happen at roughly the same time, i.e. the first one at 4am and the last starts at 7pm (and goes for an hour), but in between it varies hugely. If he cries I offer the boob, 99% of the time this is the problem, he probably feeds around 12 times a day, more in the hot weather.

He is 8 weeks.

I just go with the flow really, am happy to feed him anywhere so it doesn't really matter.

Similar to Morloth, my DD is 15 weeks. Feeds between 4 and 5am, with night time feed around 7-8pm. Other than that its whenever needed. Usually 2 feeds an hour apart when she next wakes up after 5am (around 8-9am). I go with the flow. Not confident to feed anywhere but can do most places and will offer extra feed before setting off out anywhere.

My DD (15 weeks) feeds totally on demand, there is no particular routine to it. She probably feeds every 1.5 - 2 hours at the moment. The only feeds I know she will have are 7pm before she goes to bed, around 3 and 4am. She has her first feed of the day around 6am and goes bac to sleep. After that it's anybody's guess !

this is all very reassuring! i was beginning to worry i was the only one without a 'routine'!

I think whatever suits is probably the way forward. I am not keen on routines for anything and prefer to just make it up as I go along, others like to know what is happening when/next.

jemjabella · 25/05/2010 17:08

Totally on demand here.

TakeLovingChances · 25/05/2010 17:16

My 12 week old DS is fed on demand too, to set times at all.
