Is my 3mo ebf baby immune from chicken pox?

Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post....DD is 3 months old and has been in regular contact with her cousin who has come out in chicken pox today. DD is exclusively breastfed and I had cp as a child. Is she likely to be immune whilst being breastfed? Thanks

Thank you for quick response singingbear!
I hope your dd wasn't too bad!

Does anyone know if there are any complications in catching it so young? DD is unusually hot and grouchy at the moment but I'm not sure if its just the weather!

My HV said it was very unlikely a 3 month old BF baby would get chickenpox. DH got chickenpox when DD was 10 weeks, and she never got it even though he slept in the same room as her and cuddled and played with her etc all through it (there was no point 'quarantining' him as we didn't realise what his spots were for a day or two so by then it was too late anyway).

The immunity only lasts for 7-10 days pots birth if you are immune.

Did lots of research as ds's were contagious when dd was born.

She may well get it but it tends to be quite mild in babies. It is serious in newborns or can be but I think should be ok if she's 12 weeks.

Could take up to 3 weeks for her to come out in spots though although 10-14 days seems to be the average.

My EBF DD got chicken pox at 7weeks.

There can be complications but there can be complications at any age, i don't think the risk is much higher. My doc told us to bring her in if she seemed more than a little unwell. helpful huh!

Thanks very much! Guess we'll just have to wait and see....

dd2 got it from dd1 at 5 months. I think it's quite likely your dd will get it but it would be very unusual for her to be unpleasantly ill. Dd2 was fine - spotty but fine
