5 month old screaming at the breast - any ideas?

My five month old has just started screaming at the breast and won't even try to latch back on after 10 minutes of feeding. I'd love to know if this has happened to anyone else, and if so, what you did to remedy the situation!

Just a bit of history, he's never been a good feeder and BFing has always been a bit of a battle - each feed was taking hours and was really painful until I finally managed to find someone to deal with his tongue tie about 10 weeks ago. By then he'd dropped off his weight curve and I bowed into pressure from 4 pediatricians who told me to top him up with formula. He has around 5 feeds a day during the day and a BF then 200ml formula before bed and a dream feed of 200ml formula too. He sleeps through the night so no feeding between 10.30 and 7 am usually.

Is my supply the problem and if so what can I do to help this? I've tried pumping but DS isn't the sort of baby who can entertain himself and he doesn't have daytime naps long enough to pump without us both crying our eyes out. I don't want to try that again!

My DD suddenly got more efficient at feeding, might have been a bit earlier maybe 3 or 4 months, but suddenly she was feeding in less time. I'd try and force her to take more and she'd scream- turned out she'd just had enough.
