What the hell has happened to my nipple?

You'd think after 19 months of nursing I'd know it all by now ... Woke up in the small hours in agony with a burning sensation in one nipple. My first thought was that DD had bitten the damn thing off - we co-sleep and she latches on and off all night. I ran to the bathroom, expecting to find it in shreds, but it looks completely normal Went through the bathroom cabinet looking for something to alleviate the pain but had to settle for Lansinoh and sticking it under a cold tap.

Went back to bed and persuaded DD to feed from the other side only for the rest of the night, though have done some feeds from the sore side this morning to stop getting engorged. It is still very painful - it feels as though someone has held a cigarette lighter under it, but DD isn't allowed to smoke in the bathroom

It looks completely normal. There may be a very small white dot, so I thought maybe a blocked duct, but I think that would cause breast pain as well, wouldn't it? Still subscribing to the bitten in the night theory - is there anything I can do to ease the pain? Or anything else that could be causing this?

Thrush?

Hmm, maybe (yeek I hope not!). Wouldn't that be kind of inside the nipple though? This feels more like a surface injury.

When we had thrush my nips felt like this - kind of burnt, or like they'd been carved up with a razor blade. I also developed some deep breast pain a few days later. Fingers crossed for you it's not thrush though as it's 'orrible...

Oh balls. Tbh I've been wondering whether I've had it before, as both DD and I seem to have had it down there and I have wondered whether we're just passing it backwards and forwards. I really don't want it in my nips though on the plus side I already have the creams ...

Definitely not a bleb, I've had one of those and had a lot of breast pain, plus I could see the blister.

I think it's a little swollen on the underside but is much less sore, so think she must have bitten it (or a bit of it) in her sleep. I have put some miconazole gel on a couple of times (which DD finds hilarious) but I don't think that's strong enough to have had such a fast response (?).

Thanks for replies/reading

Argh! She bit me in the night again I know what it was this time as I had to prise her jaws apart to get at my poor damaged nip She's asleep (and teething I think) so doesn't mean to do it ... might be time for night weaning I think

We tried night weaning a month or two ago and it did Not Go Well. I basically just offered water every time she woke up - she was fine the first night and then it just deteriorated plus we are currently in a small terrace so I would give in after ten minutes of screaming and feed her anyway. This time I think we are going to try one of us decamping to the spare room and hope it goes a little better. Was hoping to wait until we move to a semi in a few months but I can't take any more bites!

Thanks for the sympathy
