Starts off feeding fine and on big feeds, feeds well, then looks drunk and falls asleep - perfect! However when he is feeding inbetween this (those feeds when your not sure if they are hungry) he latches on, suck, suck, suck, then on and off, one and off, figits, arms flapping etc etc. Driving me mad!!

Sometimes I think he just wants to suck....dummy needed??

It sounds normal to me! I wouldn't introduce a dummy if you can just put up with it as they are a bugger to get rid of, can harbour thrush (you really don't want that) and can affect the development of the arch of the mouth and the future teeth to really not worth it in my opinion!

Wanting to just suck is normal and it should pass as he gets older, he's still only tiny and at this age he might not even take to a dummy as the texture and shape is so different from your nipple.

It's really nice that he enjoys breastfeeding so much! Make the most of it!

He is lovely when he does it although the figiting is annoying!! At 8 weeks do all babies figit?? I have found swaddling helps at night.

My ds2 does this, and I caved in and got a dummy, which he loves. I decided I would set ground rules about its use (eg not when we were out and about) which I have totally failed to stick to. The dummy is driving me potty falling out, being picked up, being lost (and they are quite expensive). It has, however, been a godsend at times and I would like to wean him off it around 6 months (ha ha, bet I am on here asking how to get my toddler off it).

Ds1 on the other hand, absolutely refused to take a dummy (or a bottle for that matter), which meant he would comfort suck on my boobs a lot, which did become a bit of a bind at times.

Swings and roundabouts really..

preggers- have you seen the dummy clips that you can get from most chemists/pharmacy's? They are a godsend!

I was thinking about those clips today, TheBreastMilksOnMe, I think I will get one tomorrow!

My ds lies there, kicking his legs wildly and whacking me with his arm. I think he is teething, so possibly feeding is uncomfy for him at the moment. I tend to hold his little hand tightly which calms him down a bit, but often if I just hold him in a feeding position but pop the dummy in he calms immediately. Weird. He is so different to his brother.
