Hi,

My DD is BF'd with one bottle of formula a day. She's brilliant with her solids, eats pretty much anything and however much I offer. However, she isnt interested in BF very much, and has recently started to refuse her 7oz bottle that I offer her at 3pm in the afternoon.

This is our current routine:

7am - offered a BF, usually no longer than 10mins, although I keep trying to until 7.30am

8am - Porridge with 7oz of full fat cows milk

8.30am - offered a BF, will only be on there for about 2minutes

11am - offered a BF but will usually refuse

11.30am - lunch of protein (either fish, chicken or red meat) and veg, usually around 120g - 150g. Followed by a Plum baby fromage frais for dessert

12pm - offered a BF just before her nap but will only be on for about 2-5mins

3pm - offered a 7oz bottles, used to have anywhere between 5-7oz but for the past few days, just refusing it completely. So I offer her a BF, she will go on for about 5minutes although I keep trying for a little while.

5pm - dinner followed by full fat greek yoghurt sweetened with pure fruit smoothie for dessert.

6pm onwards - offered a BF, but is usually distracted and not really bothered so will keep going off the breast so I keep trying.

Bed by 7pm. I stopped giving her a 10pm dream feed when she was 6m but have recently started as I dont she's having enough during the day but even with the dreamfeed, she wont have much, sometimes completely refusing it.

So is this OK and normal? Is it just a phase she is going through? How do I get her to stay longer on the breast? At the moment, she wont even BF if she isnt holding a toy in her hand to play with, its like BF is too boring for her! I dont think she could care less whether I offered her a BF or not, she never cries for it. Also, she will ALWAYS sleep through, earliest she wakes up is 6am and even then will happily play in her cot until 7am.

Hope I've posted in the right place, wasnt too sure if to post in the weaning folder?

I wouldn't worry. I always bf DD on demand, and trusted her to know how much she needed. Its possible that she's still having lots of milk, but has just got more efficient at feeding and she's getting lots of milk and yoghurt with her food by the sound of it.

My DS is younger at 7mo so I am not an expert at all at this but looking at your routine compared to ours, your DD is offered a BF a lot of times in a day. Our routine is to offer a big bottle (have just stopped BFing) when he wakes up, after the lunchtime nap and then at bedtime and then a smaller dreamfeed which I'm trying to phase out. So one idea might be to actually offer a BF less often so that she is more interested and takes more? Just guessing really, just a suggestion
