Burnt my arm on the bloody steam steriliser this morning. It's not so bad that I need medical attention but it really hurts. I ran it under the tap for 30 mins but doesn't seem to have helped. Paracetamol hasn't helped at all, what else can I take given that I am breastfeeding?

Can you put arnica gel on it? Or take arnica tablets? It's homeopathic and I think safe for bf?

How big is the burn? If it's still very painful then maybe you do need it looked at by a doctor.

I don't think arnica will help with the pain; it may or may not help with healing. For advice on pain relief, I would speak to a doctor or pharmacist. Many pain relievers you can take while bfing but I don't know what would help with the pain from a burn.

Thanks both. It's about 3cms in diameter but not blistered just shiny (and I have a very low pain threshold!)

I would ask a pharmacist then, they can advise a cream for burns.

I agree, see the pharmacist. If you can't make it or don't think it's too serious, try aloe and keep an ice pack on it. Keeping it cool does tend to ease the pain.

I burnt my arm with hot oil from the frying pan a few weeks back, put some sudocrem on it and it worked really well, it reduced the redness and was nice and cool on it. Its also labelled as for use for minor burns.

You can take ibuprofen (nurofen) if you are not asthmatic.
