baby 6 weeks old and preferring one breast to the other?

She is gaining weight fine but she is quite fussy at the breast especially my left breast which I think has very fast let down compared to right breast. She gets better latch with right breast as well probably because it's shaped better, left one has flatter nipple. Any advice?? Is this something they grow out of?

For example, this morning, she hasn't had any milk from my left breast at all and she cries if offered...what should I do?

I had similar issues with DS3 but my problems were due to poor milk flow in one side due to nerve damage.

HV told me to express from the boob the baby did like but I don't think that's the right answer. Didn't help me anyway.

Hopefully my pointless post will bump this up for you to someone who knows what they are on about!

Baby didn't like even.

you can try a different hold? I found rugby ball a great help

DD used to prefer my right to my left, so i always used to feed off my left when she was most hungry (at night and first thing in the morning) and that helped a bit

things did settle down and she is now not fussed

also feeding laying down slows the flow down

If you check the NCT website for fast let down then there are some good suggestions for positioning.

Dd hated my right breast when she was small (wasn't keen on the left either but that is a whole other thread) but she would feed from it when sleepy (in other words if I got to her before she realised what was going on) so I used to feed her from it at night and sometimes as soon as she woke from a nap in the day. Otherwise I expressed a little to remain comfortable in the day.

It did improve after a few months. She still likes the left better and will choose it above the right for comfort or just before going to sleep but it isn't an issue now and hasn't been for a fair while, she will happily feed off both.

hehe. Thanks, that's funny that they prefer one over the other one. I like the look of the right one better as well!! I'll try left at night and lying down eating and right for the fussy times!

My 7 week old seems to prefer the left boob - I figured out today that it might be due to my clumsiness when handling on my right hand side. Think I've been bending his ear
