8 month old won't drink formula HELP

Hello - my 8 month old boy hasn't had any milk in over 24 hours and the last feed was only 100mls. I stopped breastfeeding him around 6 weeks ago, because he just lost interest in it after starting solids, and wasn't ever staying on long enough to get let down. It got very stressful. We started him on formula and he was ok taking a bottle but only ever took about 40 mls at a time (just over an ounce). Then I figured out that I could get about 150mls into him at a time if I caught him just before he woke up from his nap and we started doing a dream feed at about 11pm when he would take about 180-200mls. So on a good day he might get about 14 ounces in total. But in the last couple of days he's even refusing these feeds.

Since we started on formula I have been putting it into all his meals and trying to give him yoghurt and cheese etc, but there's only so much you can put in their food before it becomes soup! I make sure he always has a sippy cup with water in it nearby and he sips at that throughout the day. By dinnertime he really guzzles it down.

The last few nappies have been pretty dry. But he poohs quite a lot.

Has anyone else had a baby who just wouldn't drink milk? I'm beside myself with worry about all the vitamins etc he is missing out on, and also the lack of fluids he is taking in. But i just don't know what to do! Advice or similar stories would be appreciated!

hi
I am pretty much in the same situation. my daughter stopped breast feeding herself at 6 half months much to my surprise and disappointment.. she eats well 3 times a day - pretty much what the rest of us are eating as she refuses purees! she refuses all formula through day and i can only get her to take it when she falls asleep. she is not sleeping well so i try to give her more about 11pm (she takes about 200ml at 7pm) but she only takes about 40-80ml...i really can't get her to take any more at all. is so strange as my son (27 months) takes his so easily and i can't get him off a bedtime bottle!
going to get a weight check this week but she seems to be fine!!

It must be very worrying for you. At 8 months he can have everything from cups - would he take milk from a cup? Open or sippy - if it's an open cup you'd have to hold it for him. Or use a straw. It's quite different to giving a bottle if you're used to that, but might work.

You can also get cups that have soft, bottle like teats: maybe he'd drink from one of these?

I'm having the exact same problem with my 7 month old dd, up to a week ago she was having 3 x 8oz bottles and now she is only having an oz or so from 2 of the bottles and is having the full bottle going to bed, she's fine and healthy and eating a varied solid diet, should I just move her to zippy cups during the day if that what she wants?

I know it's not the same, as my DS was still breastfeeding at 7/8 months, but he never had a bottle (wouldn't take it) so he went straight on to cups for water and milk at around 6 months. Maybe with food with dairy in it and plenty of water to drink it will be ok? I have no idea really though, but maybe talk to your HV about it.

Hopefully this will bump this a bit and someone who knows more will come along!

MmeDeWinter, how is your DS now? Hope things improved over the weekend.
